Karen Powell

KAREN LOUISE POWELL
February 24, 1960 – October 19, 2025
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Karen Louise Powell peacefully with her beloved husband by her side on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Karen was born on February 24,1960, and leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Dan; and her sons, Adam (Lyndsay) and Jason; grandchildren, Parker, Dani, Alex, Rylan, and Mikey. She also leaves behind her mother Sylvia; sister Kathy; brother Jim; sister in laws, Peggy and Diane; brother in laws, Murray and Scott; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Karen is predeceased by her father Bill.
Karen was an amazing friend, incredible cook and mother to her two sons. She was extremely proud of her sons, and all their accomplishments in life, and even more excited to be called Nana by her 5 grandchildren. Karen was the ultimate organized Mom, party host, all while keeping a very immaculate home, yard, and pool. Karen was blessed with the fruits of their hard work, and Karen and Dan travelled the world extensively with friends and family. She loved all their destinations, Hawaii being her favourite of them all. Karen and Dan enjoyed their beautiful home in Goodyear Arizona, and their happy place at the Lakehouse on Black Sturgeon, Ontario, they welcomed many families and friends for visits. Her passion for golf and loved the opportunity to play anytime, with friends in Winnipeg and Arizona. Curling was another pastime she loved to watch the grand slams, men’s, and women’s that was her jam. There is a big hole in our hearts and lives, with the loss of someone that was loved by so many, she always made you feel welcome. The Family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Cancer Care Manitoba, and St. Boniface Palliative Ward, and all the friends that took the time to visit Karen during those long days. Dan’s brother Scott and Diane for your card games up until the last few weeks. The numerous friends that kept a vigil round the clock, you know who you are, you kept Karen comfortable and her spirits up. To a very special person who came into Karen's life for a short time, Justina, we are forever grateful for your kindness, and caring ways to make Karen and our mom, more comfortable in her last months with us. Karen was always thankful to those that took the time to visit, and when you were leaving, she would thank you and tell her how much she loved you.
A private family interment will take place, and a celebration of life will be planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cancer Care Foundation.

Out hearts are heavy trying to grasp the loss you must be feeling.
It was hard to even hear of Karen's illness 8 months ago, let alone writing this comment to you now.
We will always hold the memories close to our hearts that we shared together. From our many Christmas parties dressing up and dancing into the night, to many trips to Arizona trying my best to swing a golf club , she would always laugh at my technique- which was little to be desired.
Karen was a caring giving honest women who cherished her family and knew what she liked and stuck to her true self always..
Though you are no longer with us each day to welcome us with your bright eyes, you will always be in our hearts and I'm sure you have found your place in heaven and will shine just as brightly with the angels around you.
Miss you!
Love Lisa and Chris 🌹

karen was born when I was 14. She was the first small baby I ever held and she was so sweet. In her young years I saw her a lot, but life moves on. In later years my only contact with her was through her mom, my sister Sylvia. I feel sad for Dan, the family and especially my sister. You don't expect your children to go first especially when you are in your eighties.
prayers for the family.

To my dear sis. Our memories of growing up together are very fresh in my mind. The many summers we spent up north on the island in Honey Harbour to going to summer camp in Bancroft. Great times. We always visited each other when you moved to Winnipeg for years. You were my rock when I'd phone you up constantly when Kyle was sick. I would cry all the time and you were patient and sympathetic. I love all that you accomplished with your life. You are a wonderful sister, mother, wife and grandmother. Can't say goodbye knowing I will see you again. Love you fiorever ❤️

To my Dear Cousin Karen who we spent many times growing up together as our parents were Brother Ross & Sister Sylvia & I recall the shenanigans we'd have all in good fun. Sorry we never had those same fun times as we got older possibly the miles apart...but until we meet again Karen in rainbow heaven I'll keep you tucked away safe in my heart ❤️
Love You Always Karen

Dan, so sorry to hear about the loss of Karen. The many times we came to your home in AZ she was such a fantastic person and a gracious host. I'll always remember her spoiling Madison around the pool. We were sad to see you both leave the AZ neighborhood and now it is a double loss. But Karen and you both lived life to the fullest and thats what makes it count.
Our condolences, Jason, Kelly and Madison from Arizona

We miss Karen more than words can say, and yet we can hear her laughter and feel her kindness. Life was always a little lighter and more fun when she was around. We can almost see her raising her glass with that familiar smile, offering cheers to everyone around her at happy hour. Her spirt will remain uncorked in our hearts forever.

We mourn your loss with all of our hearts Dan and family. Karen loved you all so deeply in a way so few can do. We were all fortunate to share our time with her as friends as she always made everyone around her feel welcomed along in her life's journey. The video you have created captures this sentiment in such a beautiful way. As we watched it we smiled through the tears.
