GENEVIEVE MARIE PRICE

July 6, 1943 – November 22, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Genevieve Marie Price (née Dearman) on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at St. Boniface Hospital surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Gen was predeceased by her husband Kenneth; her parents, George and Eugenie (née Baier) Dearman; her siblings, George (Lorna), Robert (Rosemary), Thelma (Robert) Maguire, Wilfred (Anne), and Lynn Goertzen. She is survived by her children, Gregory (Renee), Virginia, Michelle (Shawn Clarke), and Donna Skrypetz (Lawrence); grandchildren, Zachary (Ferny Hernandez), Emily Skrypetz (Alex Smith), Laurie Skrypetz, Kenzie Clarke and Paityn Clarke (Damien Wolf); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Gen was born at St. Boniface Hospital on July 6, 1943. She spent her early years on the family farm in West St. Paul before the family moved to West Kildonan in Winnipeg. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Princess Elizabeth Hospital and as a typist with Manitoba’s Department of Highways, before marrying Ken in 1965 and starting a family in 1967. In 1972 they bought a home in Westdale just 10 days before their third child, Michelle, was born. Once all her children were in school, she returned to work at the Assiniboine School Division, where she retired in 1999 after Ken’s death.

Many times when the children were small, she and Ken packed the car with their boisterous brood and towed the pop-up camper to explore places such as British Columbia, Ontario, Washington state, and South Dakota. She spent many summers living out of that pop-up camper in the Whiteshell while Ken drove out each weekend after work. They built a cottage at Victoria Beach and enjoyed many summers there. They also enjoyed traveling extensively while representing the Knights of Columbus.

Her faith was an integral part of her life being a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Charleswood. She was active in volunteering with the Catholic Women’s League, as a minister of the Eucharist at West Park Manor and Grace Hospital, and as an Associate of the Missionaries of the Child Jesus. She was especially proud that her grandson was planning to marry in the Catholic church next summer.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 4588 Roblin Blvd. in Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish or a charity of your choice.

Gen, my wife and I were residents at Westhaven where we enjoyed sharing God's Word together. When my wife passed away. Gen circulated a sympathy card for residents to sign. She also displayed my wife's obituary on the bulletin board without my knowledge. She was the only one from Westhaven to attend the funeral. Gen truly loved God and other people. We will miss her dearly. Genevieve is now rejoicing with her Lord.

For Gregory, Virginia, Michelle, Donna & Families

I don’t know if you remember us but we were very close with your Aunty Thelma & Uncle Bob, we always considered them Aunty & Uncle, we thought the world of them!! We would all camp, play together & would all be at Aunty & Uncle’s cabin at times together, great memories of Betula & Nutimik Lakes. Your Mom was always very nice & her & Aunty Thelma were so close, I remember your Mom so clearly!! So very sorry to read about the care she received in the ER, the system failed her & your family greatly!! Sending our condolences from our family, you are all in our thoughts!

I was very sad to hear of Gen's Passing. She was like a big sister to me in my early life. One of my first memories is of staying with her and Lyne (Tootsie) in Grandpa George's boxcar, while he was working on the railway out in Sioux Lookout, Ontario.

She was always cheerful and caring!

she was a person that was failed by Manitoba's health care system.

do we need more examples of how politicians and their parties promise to do better, but don't?

shame, shame, shame.

a life stolen,

an incompetent governmental system.
