Elaine Prokoppa

ELAINE (GARN) PROKOPPA
August 26, 1955 – October 9, 2025
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elaine Prokoppa (née Garn) on October 9, 2025, at the age of 70 at St. Boniface Hospital, with her family by her side.
Elaine was born and raised in the Brooklands area of Winnipeg, the youngest daughter of Arthur and Lily Garn. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Russell (2023); her parents, Art and Lily; her sisters, Doreen and Linda; and an older brother who passed away at birth; as well as her in-laws, Morris and Patricia Prokoppa; and her sister-in-law Colleen Cheater.
Elaine leaves behind a legacy of love through her sons, Jeff (Blaine) and Devin (Nicole); and her adored granddaughters, Isabella and Jillian, who brought endless happiness and joy to her heart. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Glen (Della); sister-in-law Shelley (Buddy); and numerous nieces and nephews, including Sheri and Christina, who visited her regularly while she resided at Fred Douglas Lodge and always brought love, laughter, and joy to her in her final years, as well as many other friends and extended family members.
Throughout her life, Elaine was a hard worker and a friendly face to many. She worked at several food establishments over the years, the most memorable being Kresge’s Cafeteria at Polo Park in the 1980s, and her most recent position at McDonald’s on Keewatin Street, where she spent over 15 years until her retirement. Prior to her declining health, she enjoyed trips to the casinos, especially South Beach and Shooting Star in Minnesota. Above all else, Elaine loved spending time with her family and cherished every moment she had with them.
Elaine will be remembered as a deeply loving, supportive, and caring mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family touched everyone who knew her. She had a gentle way of making people feel loved and appreciated, never missing a chance to remind those around her just how much they meant to her.
Elaine’s memory will live on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the strength of her sons, and the countless hearts she touched throughout her life.
Special thanks to the employees of the Spruce unit at Fred Douglas Lodge who provided care to mom in her last few years, as well as the staff of St Boniface Hospital ER and ICU units who provided care and comfort in moms final hours.
In accordance with Elaine’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to tell someone you love them—just as Elaine always did.
“We love you, Mom.
You’ll forever be in our hearts.”
Elaine’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
