RUSSELL PROKOPPA

August 30, 1953 – March 24, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Russell Prokoppa at age 69. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 49 years Elaine, his sons Jeff (Blaine) and Devin (Nicole) and his granddaughters Isabella and Jillian whom he cherished more than life itself, as well as brother Glenn (Della) and sister Shelley (Buddy) and numerous other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Morris (2004) and Patricia (2022), and his sister Colleen (2013).

Russell was born in the Brooklands area of Winnipeg on August 30, 1953, the second child of Pat and Morris Prokoppa. Russell married Elaine (nee Garn) on June 2, 1973, and they lived in the area until 1979, only to return after his retirement to live his final years on the same block of the same street where he was born.

Russell spent much of his life employed at Canada Post until his retirement in 2009. He loved golf, camping, fishing, and watching wrestling as well as Law and Order SVU, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with Isabella and Jillian, and he was always so proud to show pictures and tell everyone he saw about his beautiful granddaughters.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

❤ Russell, it’s been a lot of years since I’ve seen you. I’m sure your family legacy will live on in their hearts. My condolences to your family and friends not having your physical presence anymore but there is a part of you that will alway be with them.

I went to school with Russell for many years in Brooklands We both had motorcycles at 16 and tore up the streets at least till his dad Morris tuned us up.  Lol Russell was a great friend in our younger years with his quick witt. Rip my friend condolences to all the family

So sorry to hear of  Russ's passing. We worked together at Canada Post for several years. After retirement he would drop by my house to chat or we would meet at Cheer's for breakfast. Loved talking about his granddaughters.  My deepest sympathies to Elaine and family.
