MARGARET PTASHNIK

August 18, 1948 - August 19, 2022

With great sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Ptashnik, an exceptional wife, mother, gramma and friend, on Friday, August 19, 2022. She is survived by her husband Craig Ptashnik.

Maggie was born on August 18th, 1948 and was adopted by Alexander and Flotilla Patterson. She grew up spending time between Winnipeg MB, and Barwick ON, on the family homestead. She was a farm girl at heart and had an injury to prove it after trying to ride a cow as a young child. She was part of the notorious ‘Green Street Gang’ growing up on Green Street and kept her friendships with some of the gang her whole life.

After her marriage to Craig and with a family of her own, she enjoyed spending summer weekends at the homestead. She loved the Rainy River, hosting wiener roasts, picking blueberries, and MacGyvering anything that needed to be done. She taught herself how to become an electrician, plumber, carpenter, furniture refinisher, etc. She always knew how to fix whatever was broken, and always had a spare roll of duct tape nearby.

Maggie was always the one to open her home to anyone who needed a place to stay if only for a night, or even a few years (Rosalina). She always thought of and treated visitors as family.

Her favourite holiday was Christmas, and it was a very big deal at the house. From the decorations she carefully chose to the beautiful table she would set, with always a place for just one (or two) more. Many new friendships were forged over a random invite to Christmas dinner, and a fancy Christmas sweater.

If you were lucky, you would have been to one of her pool parties. Over the years we always had summer pool parties, even if we had no pool (a Barbie blow up pool would do).

She was an avid golfer and traveller, spending time in Ireland where her father was born, to wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Always an enthusiastic fan of Disney, we made many trips to Florida to visit the parks.

Maggie was an animal lover. Having rescued and homed many cats over the years, she will be missed by the three by whom she is survived - Mini, Jack, and Mine - every day.

Maggie will be dearly missed by her husband (Craig Ptashnik), daughter (Tracy Ptashnik) and beloved granddaughter (Alexandria Esau) with whom she shared an incredibly special bond, and a host of other loved friends and relatives far and wide.

A special thank you to the staff in the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit, your gentle attentiveness and genuine thoughtfulness will always be remembered.

Honoring her wishes, no service will be held.

Maggie's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
