To all his family and friends, no words can express how truly thankful we are for all the love and support he received during his time with us and in the days following his passing.
Your kindness has been a source of comfort and strength, and we are forever grateful for each message, visit, and gesture.
As we remember him, we find solace in knowing that his life touched so many, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at St. Boniface ICU for the exceptional care they provided during this difficult time.

Romel was my first best friend. Throughout elementary school, our classes were paired together, and we spent countless hours playing—whether it was G.I. Joes, Atari 2600, or building forts. He had that effortlessly cool style with his spiky hair (a staple of the ‘80s), and I always valued having him as a friend.
His mother, Mila, was known for throwing the best birthday parties. Every kid wanted an invitation because she would take us all to McDonald’s for hamburgers—something that felt like the ultimate treat at the time. Romel also had a great sense of humor, and I still smile when I think about the time we rigged a hockey net in his basement as a “trap” for his younger brother, Rex. (Hopefully, we didn’t traumatize you too much, Rex.)
After elementary school, my family moved away from Winnipeg. I reconnected with Romel when I was 21 and visited him, and I reached out again in my 30s, but unfortunately, we lost touch over the years. Still, the memories of our friendship have always stayed with me.
Romel wasn’t just fun—he was a loyal friend. I’ll never forget how he stood up for me against the school bully. He was someone you could count on.
Romel, you were a great friend, and I will miss you. Rest in peace.
