ROSELYN “ADELINE” RAW

(née LECHELT)

October 7, 1939 – December 3, 2024

With broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother Adeline at the age of 85 years.

Adeline is survived by her loving children, Randy, Heather (Al), and Alison; grandchildren, Dominic (Brett), April (Mike), and Kathryn (Mitchell); foster grandchildren, Edgar, Lyle, and Ronny; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Treyton, Adeline, Emilia, Archer, and Olive; her dear sister Violet and brother-in-law Lawrence; and her little sweethearts, Maybelle, Tigger, and KitKat. Also mourning her passing are her sisters-in-law, Barbara and Sharon; brother-in-law Ron; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her mother Adolphina and father Frederick; beloved husband Jim; cherished daughter Jenny; 10 siblings; and many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Raised in Hilbre, MB she spent many happy years on the farm. She often reminisced of those days, telling us stories of both hard and cheerful times. Having retained a little bit of her parents’ native tongue, German, she taught her kids a few words here and there which were most often used in a humorous way.

After having moved to Winnipeg in her late teens, she lived in various areas of the city, beginning with her twin sisters Hilda and Helen. During her working years she worked as a nanny and then at several garment factories.

She met Dad at a dance in 1959. Turning down his first request to dance, she changed her mind and they were soon an item. Marrying in 1961, they soon welcomed their oldest 3 children.

The family went on to many memorable years at the “old house” before their youngest was born and they moved to their forever home where Mom remained for almost 50 years until her passing. As many of her family can attest, she enjoyed having visitors and made everyone comfortable there. The doors were always open to any relatives passing through town or staying with us for a few days to many months.

Mom and Dad joined a curling club in their younger years and after her time on the rink, watching it became a passion. You could almost always find it on TV when it was in season. Either that or The Price Is Right. She loved her daily dose of the show and she would watch reruns over and over.

Another passion was bingo. She and Dad attended many community halls and church halls as well as the weekly televised bingo. Over the years they also loved attending their children’s school and sporting events. The kids could often count on looking into the crowd and seeing them there to cheer them on. She also enjoyed knitting when she was younger and a lot of time in her later years was spent on colouring and word puzzles.

She loved animals and had a soft spot in her heart for dogs – many over the years as well as “grand-pups”. Others’ dogs were welcomed in her home and often requested. It’s like the more paws present, the happier she was. She had a bit of a sweet tooth too. Plain old vanilla ice cream, marshmallows and Reese’s Peanut Butter cups were her favourite. She was also well known for her fondness of wine. She would try any kind but sherry was her favourite. She often received them as birthday, Valentine’s Day, and Christmas gifts as everyone knew. Mostly, she loved nothing better than sitting in her favourite chair with her coffee or glass of wine, dog beside her, TV on and keeping her hands busy with something or other.

Her biggest passion however was her family. We could not have asked for a more loving and kinder matriarch. She was so proud of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would often brag of their achievements any time she had the opportunity. Visits from “the kids” were always a highlight for her and even though she was sometimes quite tired out after, she couldn’t wait till the next time.

Instead of a formal service, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date yet to be determined.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at the ACCU at St. Boniface Hospital, especially Brad (who arranged to allow a bedside visit with Maybelle), Terry Lynn, Ashley, and Charlene who answered all of our questions and helped to ensure her comfort. Also, special thanks to niece Trish for all her support and comfort as well.

“We will miss your warm hugs dearly,

your humour and your loving ways.

Remembered and in our hearts

forever and ever.

We love you.”

Adeline’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Lovely tribute for your parent. Im sorry for your familys loss. She was a lovely woman and always remembered as caring individual, family oriented and a welcoming smile. Undoubtfully her journey touched many people she and her late husband encountered.

I think my cousins and siblings will agree that we were blessed with some wonderful Aunties ❤️

Auntie Adeline always holds a special place in my heart. She always made me feel welcome and special. Many of my favourite childhood memories involve the times that Aunt Adeline and Uncle Jim let me come and stay with them.

Auntie I will miss your smile and warmth, your wonderful hugs and genuine joy each time we saw each other. Forever loved, forever missed 💔

Auntie Addie, you were the best. I loved coming to visit you in Winnipeg when we were younger. It always felt like home... and as I grew older and was able to visit the odd time, I could always count on a good hug and time spent recalling memories of when we were little. My most favourite memory that I will cherish was my last visit with you when we were sitting chatting and out of the blue, you said, "you sound just like your mom sitting there." That meant more to me than you could ever know. Love you Auntie!

A beautiful tribute to one of the kindest people I have ever known. She had a laugh that would boom, making everyone around her laugh also- even if you had no clue what she was laughing at. 'Auntie Wine' - as a 2 year old Evan called her, and the name was so fitting. It's not goodbye Auntie- it's see you later.

Thank you for writing this heartwarming story of Grandma's life and loved ones. She was an amazing person to everyone she ever knew, and she made sure that each of us knew how much she loved us. I'll always remember her bright smile and contagious laugh. We are all fortunate to have known such a sweet and wonderful person. Rest easy Grandma, we will meet again someday.
