JOANNE MARGARET RECKSIEDLER

(Née Kelso)

September 20, 1949 – September 19, 2026
(76 yrs)

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Joanne Recksiedler who had touched the hearts of many with her kindness and gentle nature. She was born to wonderful and caring parents James (Ross) Kelso (predeceased) and Anne Kelso (née Steele) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mom was raised in sunny St. James of Winnipeg alongside her four sisters, Collen Kettler (predeceased) (Harry), Diane (Pierre), Sharon (Ashley) and Shirley (Chris). All five sisters shared a close, loving and supportive relationship of one another throughout their lives.

Mom attended and graduated from Westwood Collegiate before marrying and having three children she loved deeply; Allan (Tracey), Diana (Dave) and Kimberly (Mark). As a single mother, mom continued to raise her three children always striving to do her best and instil positive values. She provided stability, guidance, love and demonstrated a resilient character that would carry her throughout her life. Always able to find time to talk, share a coffee or impart valuable insight, she led a life of kindness, generosity and unwavering love for us.

It wasn’t long after that she started her career with AON Reed Stenhouse in Winnipeg where she worked as an Administrative Assistant for many years. But it is also here that she would meet and later marry her soulmate Arthur (Art) Recksiedler (predeceased), the man who would change her life forever. Art, together with his close-knit family welcomed mom with open arms and embraced her as a member of their family immediately. She loved attending Recksiedler family functions or visiting the farm in Beausejour. She cherished and valued those relationships that she often spoke of. For over 30 years of marriage, Mom and Art created and shared many loving and beautiful memories together with a focus on family. Art truly loved mom and she loved and missed him dearly.

Family holidays and Christmas festivities were occasions everyone looked forward to and mom never disappointed. Creating many memories with her incredible hospitality, generosity and loving spirit. She hosted many gatherings that not only consisted of incredible cooking but also the arena for highly competitive card games, listening and dancing to music and of course providing those delicious late-night turkey sandwiches that will not to be forgotten.

Her greatest joy undoubtedly though was the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and having the opportunity to watch them grow and thrive. She built and shared unique relationships with each and was so very proud of them and their accomplishments. Weekend sleepovers, staying up late to watch movies or sharing her “snicky-snacks”, hot chocolate, cheese and crackers were highlights. Attending a school activity or football game, mom always made it a special occasion with her support and she loved every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Unfortunately, mom suffered from and was in pain from many health-related issues that progressed as she got older. As the resilient person she demonstrated throughout her life she was determined not to allow these issues to slow her down or keep her from what was important in her life – her FAMILY and enjoying the time shared with loved ones.

Sadly, as the tears rained down from the skies on Saturday morning September 19th, 2026 mom, surrounded by the love of her family at the St. Boniface Hospital, was able to gather enough strength to speak her final words “I love you” before peacefully passing away freeing herself from the painful medical issues she endured.

It is impossible to summarize in a few paragraphs what mom meant to all of us and the impact she had. She had a good sense of humor, was dependable, loved bingo, could be stubborn at times, had a friendly demeanour and the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. What we can say is that we were all fortunate to have her in our lives. Mom also leaves behind to mourn many cousins, nieces and nephews that she adored.

Mom will be painfully missed but she will never be forgotten.

Our family would like to thank the incredible staff of The Lindenwood Manor, where mom resided for the last few years, for their amazing care and positive environment they fostered.

We would also like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and support staff of the St. Boniface Hospital for the treatment and care provided.

A Celebration of Life will be held for mom at a later date.

Lovely tribute to your Mom. Always loved when Uncle Ross and Auntie Nan and all the girls came to visit us cousins at the farm in Grandview. Good times and good memories. So glad my sister and I were able to visit with Joanne, Sharon and Shirley in August, we had such a good visit, lots of reminiscing and stories. May she rest in peace, keep your memories close.

Those late night turkey sandwiches after a Christmas Dinner and an evening full of family fun and card games especially Chase the Ace were the absolute BEST nightcap. She and Art were such good hosts.

An absolutely wonderful tribute to my big sister you all did such a great job I know she would be so proud.
