KIM REDEKOPP

May 29, 1954 - January 5, 2022

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden unexpected death of Gary Kim Redekopp, beloved husband of Peggy, on January 5, 2022.

Born in Alliston Ontario on May 29, 1954 to Nancy and Gilbert Redekopp. Kim’s dad was in the Canadian Armed Forces and the family moved across Canada to various bases in the 1950’s and 60’s. Kim completed Grade 12 at Westwood Collegiate in Winnipeg. Kim studied physics at the University of Manitoba. His chosen career path of Meteorology has taken him to various military bases and weather offices across Canada. All told Kim has lived in every province except BC.

Kim is predeceased by his father Gilbert and survived by his spouse Peggy, son John (Adania), beloved granddaughter Deirdre, daughter Katie, mother Nancy, brother Alan (Deborah) and family, sister Rhonda (Vern) Morrissette and family.

He met his wife, Peggy in Gander Newfoundland where they welcomed their first child, John. A few years later, his work prompted another relocation. Upon moving to Portage La Prairie, Manitoba their second child, Katie, joined the family.

Kim had a wide variety of interests and the vibrant Winnipeg arts scene was always high on his list of favourite activities. Travel for pleasure as well as work was a favourite aspect of Kim’s life. From camping in their little Boler camper to cruising to warmer climates and everything in between. Kim meticulously planned and executed many holidays for his family. These cherished memories will live on in the hearts of his family.

Kim’s family wishes to thank his sister Rhonda for her care of their 97 year old mom during this sad time.  Thank you to Kim and Peggy’s dear church family at Oasis Community Church.  Their kindness and love has been huge support.

If friends would like to donate in memory of Kim he would most assuredly love donations to go to Oasis Community Church. Kim was a stalwart supporter of Oasis, their mission, vision and values. Greatly contributing his time and talents to the Finance Committee and other areas.  It gave him great joy and satisfaction to lend a hand to the operations of Oasis Church.

Alternatively, donations could be made in memory of Kim to the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Being a long time patron and volunteer of the festival gave him great enjoyment.

A celebration of Kim’s life was held at Oasis Church. Kim’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

My deepest condolences to Kim's family in these sad times.  I met Kim shortly after my posting to the Canadian Forces School of Meteorology to assume the Commandant position he had held prior to his posting to 1 Canadian Air Division. Throughout my time at CFS Met, Kim was a constant source of support and mentorship that I always appreciated.  We had many conversations over those years.  He was a consummate professional who gave great service to the CF and the Meteorological community.  For this he will not be forgotten.  I hope your happy memories of Kim will bring you peace in the days ahead.

Peggy, we are very sorry to hear of Kims passing.  I worked with Kim for several years at the School of Meteorology in Winnipeg and found him to be a compassionate and understanding person who always had time to listen.  We will all miss him.

My deepest condolences Peggy. My time with Kim was mostly at the office during his time at 1 Canadian Air Division as his deputy (of sorts). He was a great leader and I benefited from his advice in navigating the senior military politics. But my favourite memories were of his musical performances. He will be missed.  Graeme
