Roger Redwin

ROGER JOHN REDWIN
February 22, 1943 - January 30, 2026
Hard to believe that this vital man is no longer with us. He succumbed to mesothelioma, a rare cancer caused by exposure to asbestos affecting the lining of the lungs.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Hnatiuk; his sisters, Wendi Redwin and Tina Love (Phil Wood); his nephews, Thorin Redwin, Andrew Love and Jason Love; as well as his cousins in New Zealand and Australia, the numerous offspring of his maternal aunt Gladys Sharp, née Feder.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Carol Miles; and his parents, John Redwin and Debra Redwin (née Feder); and his brother, Christopher Redwin.
Born in London, England, Roger emigrated to Canada in 1970 and settled in Toronto where he met his first wife, Carole. Trained as a pattern-maker in England, Roger continued working with wood all his life as a boat builder/ carpenter/ cabinet-maker. Carole’s work as a physio-therapist brought them to Manitoba and they ended up in Landmark where Roger set up his workshop as The Jolly Woodman.
Roger’s main passions in life were sailing and folk dancing. Roger and Carole, who had MS, travelled North America to attend Mobility Cup regattas with Roger participating as a companion sailor. He continued in this role for several years after Carole’s passing because he sought every opportunity to sail and race. Roger’s other passions were cycling, cross-county skiing, swimming, playing drums, listening to or attending performances of folk and jazz music, traveling and helping friends with any projects that were in his skill set.
Roger and Rosemary met through folk dancing at the Manitoba International Folk Dance Association [MIFDA] and had the same passion for all of the above-mentioned activities, as well as many of the same personality traits and foibles.
As Roger was inclined to say:
“We are a right pair.”

Every time we had occasion to be in Roger's company, he was a delight to be around. We are so sorry his golden years were cut short as he had such joie de vivre. RIP
