KRISTIAN PAUL RÉGNIER
October 15, 1977 - May 31, 2025
October 15, 1977 - May 31, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden devastating passing of Kristian Paul Régnier, age 47, on May 31st 2025. His untimely end of life occurred while riding his motorcycle, during a tragic accident in which he bore no fault. This tragedy has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives he touched.
Kristian leaves behind many people who adored him: his beloved wife January; devoted parents, Jean-Pierre and Carole; loyal sisters, Joelle (Jason), Mélanie and Natalie (Charles); mother-in-law Melodie; brother-in-law Travis; nephews, Tyler and Makéo; and nieces, Rielle, Mya, and Danique. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. He is predeceased by his father-in-law Douglas.
Kri, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born in Winnipeg on October 15th 1977. He grew up in Charleswood, attending Tuxedo Park School, Westdale Junior High and Oak Park High School. He played on local hockey teams, and won the Winnipeg City Championship in 1989, Coach of the Year in the Winnipeg Women's Hockey League in 2004, and the Great West Life Championship in 2012 as co-captain. Kri had a wide range of friends growing up, and was known throughout the neighbourhood. In later years he was a familiar face often spotted at the Charley, the Toad and the Albert.
Kri built a successful career in the IT industry, most recently at Wawanesa Insurance. His meticulous attention to detail, remarkable memory, and unwavering integrity earned him the respect of colleagues as a dependable problem-solver who stayed true to his values.
Kri had a near encyclopedic knowledge of movies, actors and quotes, earning him the nickname “IMDB Kristian”. He watched so many movies in the 90s that he sometimes rented movies he forgot he’d already seen. He was also a lover of rock music, and had an uncanny ability to recite lyrics from obscure songs.
Kri’s passion for motorcycles started when he purchased his first bike in 2000 at age 22. He spent countless joyful hours riding his prized Harley Davidson, alongside his dad, uncle Louis, his good friend Kevin, and others. Among his many adventures, Kri treasured two trips riding to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with his dad. There in Sturgis, Kri surprised his dad with a pre-arranged memorial brick on the street, inscribed with their names. In 2009, he became an instructor for Manitoba’s Motorcycle Training Program, sharing his passion for riding by teaching others—a trait inspired by his mother’s own dedication to teaching. A careful and conscientious rider, Kri was dedicated to keeping motorcyclists safe on the road. , and became Chief Instructor in 2015.
Kri met Jan at the Limelight karaoke bar in 2009, and from the very next day, it was clear how much excitement and happiness Jan brought into his life. They were married in 2016 and enjoyed countless happy moments and adventures to a number of countries. Kri’s affinity for meticulous research and planning brought them on exciting holidays which included surf lessons, intriguing excursions, discovering new restaurants and relaxing on the best beaches. Kri and Jan had a strong love for one another and created many lasting memories that will be cherished forever.
Kri didn’t just say he cared—he showed it, in every small and thoughtful action. He was especially devoted to his wife and parents, and always protective of his sisters. Family meant everything to him—he loyally attended every sports game and recital for his nieces and nephews, never missing a moment to show his support. Kri was always happy to lend a hand, whether it was helping solve everyday problems, diving into research to help someone make the best purchase, or just being there to listen and offer advice.
Kristian’s generosity, dedication, and unforgettable charm will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

I worked with Kri for many years at Great West. He could always be depended on, whether it be work-related, movie trivia or just a friendly chat.
To this day, anytime I see Michael Wincott on screen I have to stop whatever I'm watching and tell whoever's with me about the time Kri ran into him and surprised him by knowing & using his name, not that of one of his characters.
He will be greatly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

Over the years, I built a strong connection with Kristian and deeply valued his thoughtful insights not just about work, but about life. He played a key role in the progress we made on our team, always planning ahead and building solid processes that helped us succeed.
Beyond work, we often talked about motorcycles, family, and life. He even became my go-to for thoughtful gift ideas—I called him my “gift advisor.” But what I admired most was how much he cared: about the work, about doing things right, and most of all, about people. He stood up for the team and always made time to support others.
Kristian was not just a wonderful colleague but a truly kind and genuine person. My deepest condolences to his family—his loss is felt deeply by all of us who had the privilege to know him.

Kri and I hit it off as friends when we were teenagers, and were a part of each others lives ever since. I didn't like most of the bands he liked, but we both liked Everlast (House of Pain) and we wound up going to every Everlast concert together. Kri took me for my one-and-only motorcycle ride in my early 20s, which scared me to death but is also one of my absolute favourite memories. He played an even bigger role in my husband Steve's life, having been friends with him since they were kids and later coaching hockey and going to many concerts together (if a metal band was coming, Steve's phone was always sure to ring). Kri was our go-to guy every time we had a question about anything from back in the high school or Charley days - his memory was amazing. He loved getting those questions, and our question would almost always turn into a long phone call with year books on our laps and tons of laughs. He always texted me on my birthday, but part of that was because he knew I felt super bad that I could never remember which day in October his was! So it became his annual happy birthday taunt, and it was funny to him to make sure I never found out which day his was. Sadly now I know it was October 15th, and I really wish he was still here gleefully keeping that secret from me.

My deepest condolences to Kritian's family and friends. I know Kritian since he started working in the BluePass team at Wawanessa. He was my direct leader for almost a year and even when we never met in person I could recognize He was a really authentic, enthusiastic, happy, positive person. He was easy to talk and always had a funny story to tell. His caring for his teammates was genuine. He will be missed for everyone in our team. May his soul rest in peace !

I went to High School with Kri and he was such a kind-hearted, genuine person. Hilariously funny, whip-smart and could talk for hours. I remember him singing Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills" with such passion. Decades later, anytime I hear that song, I think of him. I was not surprised to hear that he lived his life with such rigour, goodwill and accomplishment. My deep condolences to his family and friends.

Kri was one of a kind and I feel blessed to have spent time with him and his wonderful family. So many great memories from years ago that brings a smile to my face. Kri was always himself no matter where he was, kind, funny, incredibly charismatic and I can still hear his laugh which makes me smile. His relationship with his sisters and parents was one of a kind filled with love, laughter and of course lots of banter. Thank you Kri and his family for being a part of my life and I will cherish these memories always. 💙

Kristian was my supervisor at Wawanesa, and he always cracked me up. When he found out that I liked to skateboard, he got me on a Teams call, and took me on a Google Maps tour of all the places in Charleswood that he used to skate as a kid. Any time I'd visit him at his desk in the office, he'd show me a skate video he used to watch religiously, or show me a board he always wanted. I'm really glad that we got a chance to skate together last fall when Wawanesa rented out Pitikwé skatepark for a United Way event. Kristian will be missed dearly by everyone on our team.

Kri was a huge part of of my life for a number of years. To me he was another brother, a friend, and a coach. He was family. He was unbelievably kind, caring charismatic, intelligent, and funny. We shared many memories, laughs, and only argued like siblings once or twice. He made a big impact on my life as a young adult, and I always had a place in my heart for him even though I had not seen him in years. The entire Regnier family will remain in my heart, and to JP and Carole thank you for sharing this wonderful man with so many of us. I was lucky and blessed to have known him.

My most sincere condolences to Kri's family. I went to school with Kri in our very early years at Dieppe, and then at Oak Park. Kri always had a story for everything, and was a happy and social person. I credit Kri for introducing me to Johnny Cash. Kri, I am glad to know you found love, and lived out some of your life goals. Rest peacefully.

When I was in elementary school I always looked up to Kri as being one the coolest older kids around. And he bestowed his excellent taste in music upon us through his sister Mel who was in my year. I have no doubt he will be dearly missed by his close friends and family, but I know he will live on through the joy he spread to all he knew him.

Condolences to the family. I had a lot of fun with Kri and Jan in the early days of them dating. I was able to see their love grow over the years. Many times Kri would come by and visit Jan at her desk when we all worked at Canada Life together. Both of their faces would always light up when they saw eachother. Kri would always stay and chat with us. He was always so funny and easy to talk to. Someone that would make your day better just from a few minutes popping by. He will be truly missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Kri from our mutual IT friends. I'm still in shock and so angry about how a simple error in judgement by someone else can impact 100's of people for the rest of their lives. Although I had not seen Kri in a while, I still remember our good times at the bar, or staff events and talking about movies as we were both huge fans. I will continue to have good thoughts for Kri's family and friends and look forward to catching up with him one day and chatting about the movies he missed. Cheers Kri, until next time.
