Delmar Reid

DELMAR REID
April 7, 1930 – September 24, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Del Reid at the age of 95.
Del was born in Winnipeg to Richard and Doris Reid and was the middle of three sons, between his brothers, Ralph (Jean) and Richard (Lois).
He was the beloved husband of the late Irene Reid, with whom he shared 69 wonderful years of marriage.
To celebrate Del’s life, he is lovingly remembered by his children, Colleen (Peter) and Jeff (Natasha); grandchildren, Brendan (Morena), Corrina (Marc), Jeffrey, Justin, Alicia (Jordan) and Torrie (Chris); and six great grandchildren, Halle, Lila, Ayden, Olivia, Thatcher and Hudson.
Del was a proud Winnipeg Firefighter for 39 years. He started his career in 1951, and along the way earned many promotions, retiring as Assistant Deputy Chief in 1990.
Outside of work, Del and Irene found joy in travelling together, especially during their cherished winters in Arizona. Summers were spent at their beloved cottage on Falcon Lake, where Del was often seen puttering about, lending a hand to neighbours and friends, or enjoying golfing, water skiing, and boating. His presence brought life to the cabin, creating memories that will be treasured for our family and friends.
Spending time with family and friends was deeply important to Del. His warm, sociable nature made it easy for him to connect with others, and he truly cherished those relationships. He rarely missed a chance to support his grandchildren, often driving across the city and province to cheer them on at hockey and soccer games. Del will be remembered as a kind, gentle, patient, and generous soul whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around him. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Please join us in celebrating Del’s life at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, at Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota Street in Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Firefighters Burn Fund or a charity of your choice.

Del - Mr Reid to me - was truly the kindest man and was always interested in our activities as kids and then adults. Whenever I dropped in to visit Colleen at the cottage it usually began with a visit with Del which Rick and I enjoyed. (Not to mention it gave him an excuse to put the lawnmower or saw down for a few minutes.) Rest in peace and see if you can find my dad to share happy hour with and maybe a sunset. My condolences to all the family.

First and foremost, Del was a nice man. Fortunately for a young firefighter such as myself, he was a great mentor. I enjoyed his company in the stations over the years of my career. He was a good firefighter and a good officer. Always well respected by anyone he met. Myt condolences to his family. Men like him leave a hole.

Uncle Del so many memories even though we didn't see you guys as often as we'd like. My most fondest memory was when we were station in Baden Baden West Germany (1980's before the wall came down). Del and had come for a visit . Irene and my Wife (Shirley) had taken our car and gone off Shopping. One of the local attractions in our area were the Roman Bath at the Baden Casino. The only available mode of transportation available for us was my BMW 650 not an overly large motorcycle. With plenty of time on our hands it was off to the Roman Baths on a drizzly day. To say the ride was cozy is an understatement. We did the full tour. Cold shower, hot bath and then the mummy wrap in the snooze room. We had an awesome experience. Irene was beside herself when got back to the apartment. She would not believe we went to the Baths. She kept sniffing us accused us of being at the Cat House. We will forever cherish these memories.

Del was one of the nicest human beings I have ever known. He was my first cousin, but about the same age as my mom and dad, with whom he and Rene were more like sibblings. He was so kind to my sisters and me. Every memory I have of him is a good one. We were all fortunate to have him in our family and he made all of us better people, just by being around him. Love to all of his family and friends. Heaven has added another angel.

One of the nicest men you could meet, and an absolute pleasure to work with. Del was a true gentleman, and an honorable man who deeply cared for his crew and the people around him. A great Captain when he was our Officer at #4 Station. Wonderful memories ...... We will miss him!
