RON REID

April 11, 1947 - December 8,2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ron.

Left to cherish Ron’s memory is his wife of 52 years, Joel; daughters Kristel (Rene) and Stephanie (Cian); grandchildren, Tyler, Luc (Hazel), and Shelby (Kelsey); sisters, Lorraine Reid, Doris Evans, Sharon Hunt, Marlene Green (Richard), and brother Lloyd Hunt (Jodi); along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his Father Charles Reid; brother Maurice Reid; and mother Theresa Hunt.

Ron was a lover of sports and the outdoors.

Ron had worked at Acme Bedding and Upholstery for almost 30 years,  during which time he played on and managed the company’s softball team “The Bears”. Upon retirement he kept busy with his passions of reffing hockey and umping softball.

Ron would often be seen on the highway biking to Robins doughnuts in Gimli for a mid afternoon coffee.

One of his favourite places was the family home out in Sandy Hook.  Whether it was listening to music around the fire pit with friends and family, getting in the yard throwing the pig skin around with whoever was out there or planning the next game of badminton.

Our annual Christmas ball hockey games were a highlight of the year with everyone together, a tradition started by Ron in 1977.

Cherished are memories of travel with Joel, Kristel, Stephanie, Rene and Tyler.  Whether it be Mexico, Cuba, Italy, Paris or many trips to Disney, they would all include so many laughs and adventures.

We would like to thank the staff of A02 Riverview for their care and compassion.

A private family celebration of life will be held.  In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s unit (AB2) of the Riverview Health Centre or the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.

So sorry for your loss of Ron. He was a clever, friendly man with great smiles and greetings. He was always fun to be around and his “ movie critiquing” very appropriate. May he rest in Peace, and you the family, cherish your memories…..Pat & Bob Bucholz

Sorry to hear of Ron’s  passing. Ron and I grew up in the west end, we spent a lot of time playing ball hockey, football, baseball and many other sports near Daniel Mac. He will be missed.
