ROBERT ELMER RHYNARD

June 13, 1946 - April 9, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Rhynard after a brief battle with leukemia, at the age of 77.

Robert was born in Winnipeg but spent his early years living in Ferndale, MB with his family, Elmer (father), Dorothy (mother) and big sister Gail. Moving into the city in the early 60's, Robert worked in construction until he grew tired of climbing on (and occasionally falling off) roofs in the winter and took a job with Barber-Ellis Papers, eventually Unisource, with whom he would be employed until his retirement in 2009.

Around that same time, he met the love of his life and future wife Barbara Teskey at the legendary Pony Corral Drive-In restaurant and the rest, as they say, is history.

After numerous overseas adventures with his soulmate Barbara, they settled down in Winnipeg and soon the family grew with the birth of their son, Scott and daughter, Andrea.

Robert's interests were numerous and diverse, from his masterful skills as a carpenter, wine maker, avid golfer, picture framer and gardener to his love of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Jets or renovating their winter getaway in Arizona. But, more than anything, his devotion to his family was paramount and everything took a backseat when any member of his family needed him.

Over the last decade, Robert became a doting and loving grandfather, and "Papa" relished any opportunity to spend time with his five grandchildren: Sam (6), Maddy (10), Luke (10), Jacob (16) and Grace (24). He never passed up an opportunity to share his gummy worms, shower them with hugs and kisses or funny stories of growing up in the country.

Robert's loving nature, incredible sense of humour, and presence will be missed by his cherished wife Barbara, children Scott (Jacqueline) and Andrea (Ray), sister Gail, his beloved grandchildren, and his many friends.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the healthcare staff at the Health Sciences Centre GD6 Unit for their excellent care during Robert's stay.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba or The Health Sciences Centre Foundation - GD6 Renovation Fund.

Funeral services will take place at Charleswood United Church on April 26 at 1:00pm.

Robert's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Barb, Scott and Andrea

When I learned of Bob's passing a flood of memories from our Kinsmen days came to me. All of the work projects we embarked upon. Travelling across Canada to attend conventions. And the parties and parties and parties. Great memories of our friendship.

Our condolences to Barb, Andrea, Scott, & their families.

We enjoyed our times together in our neighborhood with Rob & his family..  One of our treasured memories of Rob will be the number of beautiful framed pictures he did for us.  He was a perfectionist,!  We appreciated his work so much, we recommended Rob to our friends.  They also were very satisfied.

Rest In Heavenly Peace Rob  🌹

Our condolences to Barb and family for your loss.  Neighbors since 1979, we enjoyed the many opportunities to gather with the family and friends in the community, while curling, and 17 March - in Mesa.  Many memorable times.  We will miss Rob.

We were neighbours with Rob and Barb for many years.   Rob was a wonderful person with a great smile and sense of humour.   He gave big hugs.

We always looked forward to summer and chats with Rob while doing yard work.  We appreciated the tomatoes that he left on top of our fence but had to make sure we got them before the squirrels did.

We send our condolences to Barb and the family.    Our thoughts are with you.

Memories of our trip to California in 2019.  This is how we will remember Bob....that smile and a drink in hand.  We will remember our breakfasts at Nicks, dinners at each other's homes, the golf games, the laughs, the treasured handmade gifts from his talents hands, the crazy accents, the warm hugs, attending Waste Management golf tournament while in Arizona in the pouring rain and still laughing about it.  Our heart-felt condolences Barb, Scott, Andrea and family.  He was a true and loyal friend and he is already so very missed.  We will treasure the great memories of Bob always.  All our love and hugs.

I’ve not known Bob for too many years. Shuffling in Arizona and working together at our annual Spaghetti Dinner. Bob had the recipe for the sauce, and was the official last word on the taste test. We missed him this year because of his illness. But still used his recipe.   Glad I got to know Bod. He is already missed.

Sorry for your loss

In 1991 I was offered a job at Barber-Ellis and Bob took me out for lunch to convince me to take it. Saying yes was the best career decision I have ever made and it's thanks to Bob. We spent many years working together and I also remember the parties and dancing with the B,E. Team at your house.

Also, Ron and I have often talked about our golfing 4 some at Apache Trails golf course. What a great day.

Our sincere condolences .

As kids, we shared many happy times together….memories of living in Ferndale and  having cousin fun.

Rob, Doug and I ….all born in June of ‘46. Birthday parties, rainy days reading comic books, forts made in the willows, fishing in the mighty Lasalle…. and then boiling our catch…. maybe this was the beginning of Rob’s famous recipes!

Sending love to all as we remember Rob and the happy memories he has left with us.

Humor, wine, the Blue Bombers, loyalty, and love of family … the things I think of when I think of my Uncle Rob (not necessarily in that order). Simple things that add up to a pretty darn good life lived. My favorite memories are of him performing at the Ferndale Christmas party when we were kids; screaming at the TV with Aunt Barb during Blue Bomber games; and the times he showed up during important moments in my life like leaving home for college, my wedding, my retirement, etc. What else can I say? I am very grateful for his time spent on this Earth.

We can only repeat what so many others have said in their tributes to Bob.  He was a great friend from the moment we met.  His love of life was only exceeded by his love for the people in his life.  Although we did not have the opportunity to be in touch with Bob for a number of years he and Barb have always been in our hearts and often in our minds.
