FLORENCE RITCHOT

(née GAUTHIER)

August 14, 1940 - December 19, 2025

While surrounded by her loving family on December 19th, 2025, Florence passed away peacefully in her cozy home. We are left with heavy but grateful hearts to mourn an amazing wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Florence was adored and appreciated for her unwavering kind and gentle spirit and terrific sense of humour. She will be missed by her husband Claude, sons—Ron (Nicole) and Michael, daughters—Lynn (Mary) and Monique (Jay), nine grandchildren—Colin; Stephane; Kody (Stephen); Danica (Chad); Chris; Joel; Samuel; Jaymee; Dru; great-grandchildren—Carson; Jace; Mila; as well as numerous siblings on both her and Claude’s side and their families.

Florence was the second eldest of eleven kids; Terry, Rolly (Bev); Albert (Janet); Julie; Jeanette (Bullet); Luc (Vernice); Yolande; Ray (Deb); Ron; Larry (Linda). She was predeceased by Rolly and Terry and her parents Napoleon and Marie Gauthier.

Flo and Claude were married for 65 years and raised their four kids in St. Boniface. Mom was a devoted stay-at-home mom until 1978 when she started working at Tache Nursing Centre. This was a place where she met and developed new friendships and was respected for her kind-hearted ways and strong work ethic until her retirement in 1998.

Mom was in her element when she became a Mémère. In the early days when our families would get together, their household became quite busy and chaotic and yet, mom remained patient and loved em’ all up each and every time. Her grandkids were her pride and joy and always included hugs and an “I love you” when they arrived or were leaving. She showed the same affection to all of us kids and in turn, we credit her for mentoring unconditional love.

When Claude retired in 2000, they began spending most winters in Mesa, Arizona. It was there that they joined other friendly Manitobans and Canadians alike in Mesa Dunes Trailer Park.

There were not too many days that went by when mom and dad didn’t start the day off with a couple of games of cribbage while they had their morning coffee—often playing each game for a loonie (apparently the stakes were high!). Their fun-loving competitiveness led to some teasing and name calling which always brought out some giggles; us kids loved to see their silly antics and would laugh right along with them.

Mom was tiny but mighty and her quiet presence could also become a force to be reckoned with when it came to standing up for her family and friends. She ensured that fairness was always on the table and made every effort to make sure that those around her felt comfortable and cared for—she was truly a gem!

In lieu of flowers or donations—remember Florence by being kind, patient and respectful towards others.

A Celebration of Life to honour Florence will take place this coming Spring.

I went to school with both Ron and Nicole and I know how much they loved their mother (mother-in-law). I'm sure she will be sadly missed by everyone who was blessed and fortunate enough to have her in their lives. My sincerest condolences and big hugs to the Ritchot family as they grieve the loss of their beautiful Florence.

I also worked with Florence at Tache many years ago. I would think of her occasionaly over the years and miss her dearly.

She was always so kind, accepting, loving with a fabulous sense of humour. She touched my heart and I have never forgotten how much she meant to me. I feel so blessed to have gotten to know her and her lovely family. Rest in peace Flo, you amazing one of a kind ,special lady ! xoxo

I worked with Flo at Tache Nursing Centre in the kitchen. (1982). I was very young and nervous when I started working there. Florence took me under her wing and trained me for my first part time job when I was only 16. I never forgot how kind and welcoming she was to me, she definitely was a special lady! I'm truly sorry for your loss. ❤️
