CRAIG JAMES ROBERTSON

February 9, 1950 - October 31, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce that Craig Robertson passed away on October 31, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer at St Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 72 years.

He is survived by his children Sean, Stacy (Phil), Scott (Kelly) and Graeme (Marcy); and grandchildren Tanner, Quinn, Ethan, Ainsley, Payton, Lucas, Arielle and Tenley, extended family and friends.

Craig grew up in Winnipeg, an only child and was raised by his mother Doris. He had a close relationship with his Grandparents, who helped raise him. In Craig’s teens he began working at Eaton’s and then settled into a career as a Power Engineer with CP rail, where he worked for over 40 years and made many lifelong friends. He always had a story to tell about his time at CP Rail in Management. The light in Craigs life was his 4 children, he was a hard worker, holding down 3 jobs in his younger years to support his family. Craig enjoyed attending his children’s sporting activities. He was their number one fan in the stands, cheering on his kids during basketball games, or heckling the referee. He could be found in the driveway or garage helping to repair damaged cars when the children were in their teenage years. Good or bad, right or wrong, Dad could be found by our side, guiding us in the right direction and supporting us.

Later in life, as the grandkids were born, Grandpa naturally took his seat back in the stands, helping to drive the children to activities, babysit and assist with house repairs. He also had a special place in his heart for his Grand dogs and would be found with pockets full of treats. Dad took a liking to golf and spent many years on the course with family and friends from work. Oddly enough, his score was always better than his children. When he wasn’t on the golf course he spent time around the pool, watching his children and grandchildren grow up. In his retirement, he discovered a passion for travel and fell in love with the Country and people of Cuba. He was a very generous and selfless man, doing whatever he could to help those in need.

Craig was diagnosed with cancer in his 50’s, his stubbornness and perseverance came through and he battled back and won. He went on to live a further 20 years and then the cancer came back. He fought a hell of a battle, and didn’t want to burden anyone with his illness, largely keeping his discomfort and challenges to himself. Dad left with family by his side, peacefully and he is already dearly missed. His legacy will live on in the love that he shared with his children and grandchildren. He is gone but will never be forgotten. A special Thank You to Dr. Shawn Thomas, Cancer Care Manitoba and the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Team for their compassionate care.

An informal drop in to Celebrate Craig’s life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., November 12, 2022 at 620 Slater Road in West St Paul at his son’s residence. Friends and Family are encouraged to come share stories, celebrate his legacy and share in a rum toast.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba in Dad’s honour.

Craig's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

My condolences to your families. I had the pleasure of meeting Craig aka "shaggy" as known to him by a few people at his residence on Templton.  He had a wonderful personality and was cheeedrful when I saw him.   We would joke back and forth.  No subject was ever off the table.  He will be missed.

Condolences to Stacy and the Robertson Family. I had the distinct pleasure to meet and work with Stacy when she walked into my classroom  many years ago. If Craig was anything like his daughter he must have been an amazing father and man. May he rest in peace and may his precious memories comfort you all.
