VERNON RODY

December 21, 1959 - March 16, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Vern Rody at the St. Boniface Hospital on March 16, 2022 at the age of 62.

He was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents; father Fred; and brother-in-law Mario Bednarski. He is survived by his mother Mary; sister Valerie; brothers Vince (Laureen) and Vaughan (Jodi); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Growing up in the Wolseley area meant playing football with his brothers and friends all summer and street hockey all winter. Vern also enjoyed participating in many sports at the Isaac Brock Community Centre in his youth. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling or even just operating the snowblower. As long as he was outside, he was happy!

Vern worked for the City of Winnipeg for many years, retiring in 2015. Vern was very proud of the many trucks he purchased over the years and was always willing to give someone a ride or help someone move. He enjoyed dressing up as Santa Claus at Christmas parties (a role he eventually grew into) and his nieces and nephews loved it just as much as he did!

Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, Vern's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I grieve with you Mrs. Rody, for the loss of Vern. He was always kind to my son Sean. I have thought of you and Mr. Rody many times over the years after you moved away and the your kindness and genoristy when you gave Sean, Chimo, that big, beautiful Husky. Once again my thoughts are with you in your time of sorrow. Vern will be missed and may he rest in everlasting peace. On behalf of Sean and myself. Helen Suchy

Again we, in the mystery of Life, are brought face to face with the mystery of Death.    Vern a good friend has left us, but we carry him in our hearts.    Condolences to Mary his eternal companion, and his entire family.

To Mrs Rody (as my family always called you) I'm so sorry to hear you've lost Vern. I certainly remember him as a big-hearted kid who was always wonderful to Graeme and Merry, my two kids. We lived next door to you on Greenwood Place, and I remember your whole family with great fondness. My brother's obituary happens to be in today's paper also otherwise I would not have seen Vern's notice. I'm glad to be able to send my condolences. I know how you all must be hurting. Sincerely, Nancy Hall (formerly Lang).

I was heartbroken when I heard of Vern’s passing.  He was always there to offer help to the kids and I or just to be company for us. He also played Santa a few times for them and their friends.  All the kids loved Vern.  He had such a big heart!  He will be sorely missed by many people.  Love you Vern!  RIP. ❤️

Our deepest sympathy to Aunt Mary, Val, Vince, Vaughan and their families. Vern was such a great person. It was always good to see him and his smiling face at family gatherings. Always ready to tell a story and easy to talk to. A photo is worth a thousand words and this chosen photo says it all. Love ya and will miss you cuz!  ❤️Dean

My sincere condolenses to the Rody family on Vern's passing. My brothers and I grew up with the Rody kids on Greenwood Place and Vern was an integral part of our family's shared history. He was a kind-spirited soul....and I definitely recall a lot of street hockey & football games that went well into the evening...it was a fun time to be kids playing together.

We have many memories but one I'll  never forget was Vern and I went moose hunting with Uncle Fred and Uncle Gerald to Mafeking Mb. One early afternoon Vern offerd to drive me around on some bush trails to hunt ruffed grouse or partridge as I call them as both uncles were a little bushed that day. So on we went and as we were going down the trails I watched for birds and Vern talked and drove. Soon I noticed the faster Vern talked the faster he drove and spotting birds was getting difficult so I said to him  "You have to talk slower or we'll  never have any luck. After a large long laugh we had good luck till he forgot himself and rapid jaw was back. Always fun with Vern.  Thinking of you all..Brian and Gail

I was sad to see the post from Val about Vern. He was one of many of  Larrys cousins I met early on. He would sometimes stop in and visit us when we lived in the city and even when we moved to Robin we would get a surprise visit from Vern when he would drive a vehicle in for the car dealerships. He was always happy with many stories to tell and would always greet you with that great smile.

My condolences to the family.  Vern was my best bud when this farm girl moved to the big bad city.  He took me under his wing and made everything a little less scary.  Such a kind heart, and his giggle was just the best.  ❤
