Stacey Ross

STACEY ROSS
August 19, 1970 – January 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Stacey Ross on January 16, 2026 at the age of 55.
Stacey is predeceased by her mother and father Susan and Arnold Ross. She is survived by her daughter Morgan; siblings Sheri (Susan) and Benjamin (Wendy); several nephews; her beloved dog Lulu; as well as her many of “best” friends.
Stacey was an educational assistant and respite worker for more than 20 years. For the past 18 years she worked at Grant Park High School where she made a positive impact on her students and co-workers.
Stacey was born and raised in Winnipeg. She loved her city and was very proud of it. She was a dedicated child of the 80’s and adored everything about 80’s pop culture, including the art Keith Haring, the music of Yazoo and Bronski Beat, boots by Dr. Martens, and Bruce Springsteen. She held fond memories of the life in Winnipeg, during that time going to Mr. Green-jeans for the “best” buffalo chips. Birthday parties with her favourite Jeanne’s cake, and events at Assiniboine and BirdsHill Park. More recently, she enjoyed trips to California and New York to visit family and friends and toured the Maritimes with her sister. For as much as she loved her hometown, she took every opportunity to see new places.
A Celebration of life will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, January 27, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent. Shiva to follow at 262 Lockwood street, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6-8.

I found out about Stacey's death accidentally as I do not live in Winnipeg any more. I was a childhood friend that lived three doors down on Lanark Bay. Stacey was one of four girls in the same grade and one of five that played together on the street. Stacey was one of the first people I had met on the street when I was five years old and had just moved there. I remembering going to her house and sitting halfway down the carpeted basement steps because the house she lived in didn't have air conditioning. Shortly after, her family moved closer to me and had a house with air conditioning. We attended the same ellementary school and I graduated with her from Grant Park. She was so very funny, popular, and a such a good person to gow up with and know. I am so sorry to hear of your passing. I know everyone we graduated with will be missing you greatly because I bet you were the ringleader for all those reunions that I apparently missed. I will always remember your laugh. Benji and Sheri, I'm so sorry for your loss. Stacey, may your memory be a blessing. ז״ל

I remember meeting Stacy when she was a baby, but my first memory of actually spending time with her was when my sister Jody and I drove cross America, then across Canada to end up in Winnipeg. We spent the weekend with the Ross family (my family) in Winnipeg beach. We spent the weekend laughing, braiding hair, and pumping water with an actual water pump, which was always a highlight for me when I was at Winnipeg Lake. Years later, when facebook became a thing, we, the California cousins, really connected with the Canadian cousins. We loved when they came to visit us, especially once the kids were born. My kids got a kick out of the fact that the ocean, palm trees, mountains, canyons, were a novilty to them, and the fact that they always wanted to go to the "tourist" places that we hardly ever went to. We took them everywhere they wanted to go, often pulling straws who "had..." I mean "got" to go to Disneyland and Universal Studios. Stacy was always happy. Happy to be here, happy to be with us, and happy to go wherever we took her. I can't believe she won't be coming back to visit. I will miss her very much. I will miss our facebook chats, and her smiling happy face when she was admiring the California sunshine...I used to send her and Sheri weather reports just to tease them for living in the coldest place on earth (today is going to be 80 degrees by the way). Rest in Peace Stacey! Go find David and have a good laugh.

I am a teacher at Grant Park and over the years Stacey attended my class with her student. I enjoyed having her in my class and we would often joke around; Stacey had a dry sence of homor and always made me smile. She was very patient with her students in my class as they worked on sewing projects. Condolences to her family. .

I was so saddened to hear of Stacey’s passing. I had the privilege of knowing her through her work as a respite worker with one of our Special Olympics athletes, and she was truly exceptional. Stacey provided care with such kindness, patience, and genuine love, and she built a wonderful relationship not only with the athlete she supported, but also with the families and caregivers involved in the Special Olympics Westwood Aces bowling program.
Her compassion, warmth, and steady presence made a real difference in the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. My heartfelt condolences to Morgan and to Stacey’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
