Leanna Roulette
LEANNA GLORIA ROULETTE
December 24, 1969 — August 24, 2022
With sadness, we announce that our beautiful foster daughter, Leanna, passed away with her “Mom” Anne Cohan and her “Brother” Greg Petzold at her side. Leanna came into our home and our hearts when she was less than a year old.
She soon took over our family with her big smile and her joy over even the simple things in life—a hug, a joke, our dog Sam, presents, Santa Claus but NOT CLOWNS, definitely not CLOWNS!
Eventually, because of her increased needs, Leanna went to live at St Amant Centre but kept her close connection to our family, coming home on many weekends. She graduated from the St Amant School and later attended the Apple (Applied Learning Program) with Denise and Jaymarina. She enjoyed driving her power chair until it became too difficult for her. Although Leanna was not verbal, she found ways to let us know what she wanted—from pointing, nodding, to using her iPad and lately starting to use an Eye Gaze device which would speak for her.
Leanna had health challenges that ultimately prevented her from living in the outside community, but she made the most of her life in the St Amant Centre community. As a half-century resident, it was a place where “everyone knew her name”.
She loved her vacation times at Gimli with Ed and friends, dinner theatre, shopping, trips ANYWHERE and Christmases at Greg’s house with all the family.
She had a special connection to her nieces, Halya and Michelle, who grew up under her guidance! We will miss her terribly, but know that her “Sydney” will be there to greet her and take care of her, and together they will play tricks and laugh and laugh as they used to.
Thank you to all the staff at St Amant for taking care of Leanna over the years and a very special thank you to the 1 West Group. You are all truly special people.
Service to take place in the Chapel at St Amant Centre on September 23, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.
If you so desire, donations to the St Amant Foundation, 440 River Road, R2M 3Z9 gratefully accepted.
