DALE KENNETH RUTHERFORD

September 4, 1968 – February 11, 2023

After a courageous battle with cancer, Dale went home to his heavenly Father Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Left to cherish him is his wife of 30 years Kathy, their children Brent, Janna and Ryan, his mom Beverley, siblings Gord {Barb} Rutherford, Terri {Trevor} Holroyd, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was pre-deceased by his father, Howard Rutherford.

Dale was born in Winnipeg, and grew up in East Kildonan. His mother described him as a caring kid. Willing to help out his friends with school work, or spot nails for his dad at his tapping job. One of his favorite childhood memories was summer trips on the train to visit his grandparents in Saskatoon. Dale and his sister Terri had wonderful memories of Grandma Ogg’s garden “helping” her pick and shell sweet crisp, peas, his favorite vegetable

During his teenage years, it was a friend from high school who began to talk to him about God and His love. Dale would say November 23, 1985, was a pivotal date in his life, as it was when he decided to follow Jesus.

Dale attended Calvary Temple where he served at youth camp and Potter’s House. It was at Potter’s House where he met Kathy, the love of his life. Once he became a dad, a Sunday school teacher and a superintendent role was a natural fit for him. If that wasn’t enough, Dale found he had a talent as a puppeteer and worked for many years with Puppets4Him. He loved to portray himself as a grouch, but all the kids and adults alike knew he was a big softy.

Dale started his locksmith career with Noble Locksmith, where he thrived in this profession. Dale earned numerous certifications: CPL (Certified Professional Locksmith) CPS (Certified Professional Safe Tech) CFDAI (Certified Fire and Egress Door Assembly Inspector). He was known in the industry for writing numerous articles for Keynotes, a locksmith magazine. He also taught courses and was continuously educating himself in the field.

In recent years, Dale took on a position with the Province of Manitoba managing the Security Division of Manitoba Housing. In his spare time, he enjoyed making pens out of exotic woods, collecting train memorabilia and tinkering with many types of safe, locks and such paraphernalia.

When cancer struck, Dale found CaringBridge where he set up a blog to share his journey. It was an outlet in which he was transparent about the ups and downs and showed us all the depth of his foundation. He said he never dreamed how big a pulpit he would be given to share his faith and hope in Jesus.

The family would like to thank WRHA Palliative Care Program, and the excellent care given to Dale on the palliative ward at St. Boniface hospital during his illness.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Calvary Temple Camp, or Cancer Care Manitoba.

A service will be held Friday February 24th at 11 am in the Buntain chapel, Calvary Temple

Dearest Kathy & Family, I've known Dale from the time he started with Manitoba Housing, both of us working out of the Plinguet office during the days of the Trades Central program.  Dale was ever the professional, and we often cooperated between his discipline and mine (Fire Life Safety).  He was always willing to find a way to help out and coordinate projects where our two trades crossed paths.   I also quickly found not only a colleague, but soon someone who I considered a friend.  In informal moments we often talked about each of our families, our life experiences, and even shared our views of our own choices of personal faith, and what it meant to each of us.  I found Dale to be a true gentleman. I was saddened to hear of Dale's passing, as I hadn't been in touch with him for a bit, so it came as a shock when I had learned of it.   While Dale and I were of different practices of faith (I am Ukrainian Catholic), we found much in common with our core beliefs, and with that I am confident of the compassion of Christ, and that Dale will be granted a place of peaceful rest in His garden.   I, and my family will keep all of you, and especially Dale, in our prayers. May Dale's memory be eternal!  Vichnaya Pam'Yat! Brent Early Colleague and friend
