SANDRA “SANDY” RYLAND
(née McBean)
June 15, 1944 – February 28, 2025
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Sandy Ryland (née McBean), on February 28, 2025, at the personal care home in Sandy Lake, Manitoba.
Sandy was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Ryland; brother, Jim McBean; and grandchildren, Sara and Michael. She is survived by her children, James (Rhonda), Angel, and Tina; grandchildren, Kyle, Travis (Martha), Kevin (Diana), Cheyenne (Mack), Bryce, and Ashley (Dylan); great-grandchildren, Jace, Micah, Gordon, Emma, and Mia; as well as many nieces and nephews. Sandy is also survived by her sister, Nancy Hedberg (Brent); and Ernie Dmyterko. She will be sadly missed by her best friend of 52 years, Louise Fillion.
While living in different parts of southern Manitoba, such as Rossendale, Glenboro, Belmont, and Wawanessa, Sandy found joy in planting flowers, gardening, berry picking, and painting cement stepping stones. She also cherished her time with Ernie on the Dmyterko acreage. Family trips to British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan in the 1970s and 80s were among her fondest memories. Sandy and Gordon travelled to Nova Scotia to explore and create lasting memories, and Sandy returned to Nova Scotia with her daughters in 2016.
Christmas was her favourite time of year, and she had a collection of Nutcrackers and Red Cardinals, a passion she passed on to her son.
Sandy treasured her pen pals across Canada as one of her favourite hobbies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Louise Fillion and David Dmyterko for their love, support, and help throughout the years, as well as to the nurses and care aides at Sandy Lake for their care.
It is not goodbye;
it is see you later.
We will miss you and
love you for eternity.
Rest in peace, Mom.
A celebration of Sandy's life will take place at a later date.
Sandy’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Sandy was an amazing lady full of love. She opened her arms and welcomed my daughters and I in as if we were family. When I had Rebecca and she finally was able to come home, Sandy couldn't wait to meet her. She told me the first time she held her that she was going to be fiesty and stubborn.
When's he found out that I was pregnant with Elizabeth, she predicted a girl... yet we all were thinking a boy.
I remember when Tina first took me out to the farm to meet her parents years before I had my girls, Gordon was still alive. Sandy, Gordon, Tina and I were sitting around the table having lunch. Sandy asked me what my favorite holiday, and I said Christmas but I hated winter. She laughed and told me that I couldn't have it both ways. Now a 25 years later, living in BC, I crave the snow on Christmas Day and often think of Sandy.
Sandy's smiles and hugs will be missed lots. Until we meet again Sandy.

Sandy will be so missed by many - she was someone who truly cared about anyone she was close to - I will never forget how kind she was to my husband Alan - they shared many laughs during those years Al stayed at Ernie's and you could always count on a big hug whenever you saw her. Rest In Peace Sandy - heaven has gained another angel
