Ruth Sabansky

RUTH SABANSKY
(PERRIE)
April 8, 1938 - September 7, 2025
Ruth Sabansky, age 87, passed away on September 7th, 2025, at St. Boniface hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Brent) and Lynn (Rob); daughter-in-law Hazel; brother John (Ann); sister-in-law Lorraine; and her grandchildren.
Ruth was predeceased by her sons, Phillip, Ron (Hazel) and Allan; brother Raymond (Lorraine); her mother Elsie; and father Michael.
Ruth was a kind, gentle and generous person.
Mom loved spending time with all of her children and grandchildren.
Her greatest love was sharing a home cooked meal with her family and friends. Before the meal was over, she was already discussing the next one.
Mom enjoyed making perogies, cabbage rolls, soups and pies with her family and through that, the tradition of cooking homemade food was passed down to her children.
Ruth loved to visit with her mother Elsie. Daughter Lynn has many fond memories of going to her Baba’s house with her mom where they would have tea and treats. They would have wonderful conversations and reminisce by viewing the family photo albums and Baba’s magazines. Daughter Linda recalls eagerly awaiting the arrival of Baba at our home to visit the family or to babysit us so our parents could have a rare night out. Wearing her high heels and beautifully done up, she always brought various treats for all of us to enjoy.
Ruth had many hobbies. She was a great seamstress and used to sew formal and casual clothes as well as Halloween costumes for her children when they were younger. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting also, creating projects of all kinds.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching her favourite soap operas and playing card games with friends and family.
When she was still physically able, she loved to go shopping and knew where to find all the best deals.
Ruth lived at St. Mary the Protectress Millennium Villa for over 25 years and made many lasting friendships. We would like to especially mention Ruth F., Gloria and Norman, Stefania, Mike and other friends who have since moved on. She enjoyed the yearly BBQ’s, perogy dinners and holiday celebrations. She looked forward to Bingo night every Tuesday evening and outings to the Ukrainian pavilion during Folklorama. She also enjoyed going to the church on occasion when her health allowed her to do so.
Mom had many health issues over the years but she faced them with strong determination and always managed to find her way back home.
Ruth received Home Care for years and made some great friendships. A big thank you to all her Home Care workers with special mention to her Home Care friends Karen and Barbara. Your friendships were treasured.
During the last few years Ruth’s health declined due to heart disease. She never complained and kept fighting until just hours before she passed. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the St Boniface Hospital Foundation for Women’s Heart Health Fund research or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
“We cannot bring the old days back
when we were all together,
But loving thoughts and memories,
will live in our hearts forever.
We hold your happy memories,
your life, your voice, your smile,
the happy times we had with you
are with us all the while.
We hold you always in our hearts
and there you will remain,
to walk with us throughout our lives
until we meet again.”
As per Ruth’s wishes there will be no funeral. A graveside service will be held 11:00am on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg.
Rest in peace, Mom.
Ruth’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

MEMORIES OF RUTH
With our deepest sorrow John & I find comfort in the memories & thoughts we share of our beloved sister Ruth.
From the beginning of our friendship Ruth opened her home and graciously hosted our Wedding Day. A busy mom with four very small children at the time made every effort to make our special day which made me feel like I was already part of her immediate family.
For over 50 years Ruth never forgot our birthdays or our Anniversary. She always sent a touching card and followed up with a phone call. She loved to talk and was never afraid to ask questions. Any question, even when it was awkward or personal. This would have made some people mad but not us, because we knew that it was Ruth just being Ruth. She just needed to know
Her generosity and thoughtfulness went on when we lost our car during an accident, she drove down to our home and offered us her car for over a week so that we could find another vehicle to get around and go to work.
For over 4 decades we watched Ruth a single mother spending her whole lifetime ensuring that her children had what they needed and then continued to share whatever she could with her grandchildren. Never selfishly spending money on herself.
After Mom/Baba passed, our visits would include taking Ruth to the cemetery and then on to get cheeseburgers and coffee at McDonalds. We often tried to convince her to enjoy another restaurant, but she was set on having cheeseburgers and coffee at McDonalds.
As time went on and Ruth lost both her sons Ron & Allan within a year of each other, we noticed Ruth was having more health problems. But with the great support & help of her two loving & devoted daughters Linda & Lynn and their husbands Brent & Rob she continued to live for her family that she so loved.
So, this isn’t goodbye. We love you and Rest Dear Ruth as we know that you will be at peace joining Mom/Baba, Art, brother Raymond and your precious three boys, Phillip, Ronnie & Allan.
Love forever
Your brother John and Sister-in-Law Ann
