Jimmy Salter

(JIM/JIMMY) SALTER

October 11, 1958 - November 4, 2022

Robert James Salter passed away suddenly on November 4, 2022, at the age of 64.

He is survived by his daughter, Amber (Bradley); step-mother, Mary-Ann; siblings, Doug, Barry (daughter, Sherri-Lea), Glenda (Dan) and Danny. Jimmy had numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and lifelong friends that were family.

He is predeceased by his parents, Marlo and Ronald and his brother, Stevie.

Jimmy was the second oldest child in blended families of 7 children, and raised in Winnipeg, MB, where he lived his whole life.

Some of Jimmy’s favourite pastimes, included; camping, fishing, enjoying beers with company by the fire, cooling off in the pool and relaxing in the sun.

Jimmy is well known for his incredible kindness, being a great friend to everyone he encountered, his love of cats and love of all fur-babies he met.

His laugh was contagious and always brought a smile to the face of anyone who heard it. Working as a support worker for 33 years was more than a job to Jimmy.

It was a calling, where he was appreciated and respected by everyone he worked with. Jimmy was a huge fan of the Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets, enjoying watching games with friends and family.

A celebration of life is to be held in May 2023 in Winnipeg, followed by internment at Riding Mountain Cemetery with a small reception.

A special thank you to Hook and Smith Barristers, the Burch family, Ethical Death Care and Winnipeg Emergency Services for their assistance during the loss of our loved one.

Jimmy’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

I recall him as a hard worker. Not a big guy but sure carried his fair share when installing windows for JAMA back in the late 70's early 80's. He was easy to talk to and always surprised me at how much he knew about so many topics. He's no longer in the land of the dying. Lucky guy!

Was just thinking about Jim a few days ago and was wondering how he was doing...Jim always had a positive attitude even when life dealt him shit.  He is smiling in every photo for a reason - he loved to laugh.  You will be missed my friend.  See you on the other side.

just thinking of all the memories we had. I’ll never forget you used to get me to run my fingers through your long hair, you said you loved the way it felt, and it reminded you of when you were little and sick and your mom would have you lay your head in her lap and she would run her fingers through your hair. So spoiled lol

AWWWW, this is the shits seeing a friend pass WAYYY Before his time!😟 I met Jimmy (Sauger) thru his brother Doug and had become great friends throughout the years, having a few beers sitting by the fire in his back yard on Arlington Street in Winnipeg👍. Jimmy always had a story to tell and liked to reminisce about old times and what the future might hold and Jimmy would always give you a helping hand when you needed one. The only thing I can really say now is: "My life was enriched by having my friend Jimmy Salter in it". I will say "Farewell" for now Jimmy, as we WILL meet again.👍❤ Ya, Bro!  William (Billy) Elliott- Friend

Jimmy, James, Jimbo….I called you all of those. 42 years of friendship ain’t supposed to end this way.  You took me under your wing when I was 15 and learning the glass business. I moved in with you when I was 17 and again you took me under your wing….words cannot express my thanks to you and your kind and generous heart…..I will never forget the last time we had dinner and hugged when we said goodbye, not knowing it would be the last time I saw you….that is all I can muster for now… .RIP my dear friend

Jimmy, sadly our lives have been changed forever! We already miss sharing holiday dinners, fishing trips to Chitek Lake, laughter and philosophy, and just hanging out at our house, watching music videos. You were a great friend and we will love and remember you forever. Till we meet again... Katy and Bob

Awwww Jimmy, we had a lifetime of memories. Remained friends even when our relationship didn’t last. You were one of a kind and someone I’m proud to call my friend. I will miss our late night chats, your laugh, your smile, everything about you. Keep all my loved ones company up there….until we meet again 💔😥
