BRIAN HAROLD SANDERS

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. After a courageous battle in hospital, Dad passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Cheryl (Roy), Darryl (Verna), and Ryan (Stacy); his sister-in-law Judi (Ken); as well as his grandchildren, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Louise; his mother, Thelma; and his stepfather, Bob.

Dad was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and soon after moved to Winnipeg. As a teenager, he settled in the Norwood area and attended Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Louise, in 1962.

Following high school, Dad spent his career in sales, including many years with Swifts Canada, which eventually took him to Kenora, Ontario, and later back to Winnipeg with Winnipeg Old Country Sausage, where he retired after 23 years of service.

Dad was known for his tall stature, warm smile, and heart of gold. An old soul at heart, he enjoyed slow mornings sipping coffee over a crossword puzzle and loved sharing stories, always happy to strike up a friendly conversation. He could often be found catching some sun while tending to his yard, cooking up a storm, or watching a game while cheering on the Winnipeg Jets or Blue Bombers.

A devoted husband and father, Dad spent countless hours at hockey rinks, football fields, and baseball diamonds, proudly encouraging his children while firmly instilling the values of hard work, integrity, and dedication. He filled many roles—chauffeur, coach, and confidant—and his family was the greatest joy of his life. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate his children’s accomplishments or praise them for their successes.

Dad embodied strength in every sense of the word. He was never one to give up and was always quick to emphasize the importance of maintaining a positive attitude. Selfless, caring, and deeply loved, his presence will be missed beyond words.

We love you, Dad — 

You will always be with us.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brian’s honour to Cancer Care Manitoba. Alternatively, blood donations may be made through Canadian Blood Services.
