We are so sorry for  the loss of Art, Dianne's longtime partner and best friend. Art was a unique, kind and talented man. He could repair or build just about anything.  He could tell a life story, a joke, or share a little-know-fact like no one else. Over the many years that we've been neighbours, we have enjoyed so many over-the-fence chats and gratefully accepted Art's rescues when we need help or a tool or an opinion. He and Dianne were such a great team together and he will be so very missed in our neighbourhood. Our sincere condolences to Diane and Lisa, family and friends.  Art, may you rest in Peace. ❤

My mother, Ruth, and I are neighbours of Art and Dianne, and feel the loss of Art's wonderfully gregarious nature; he was so often working outside that a familiarity was easily come by. He helped out my mother with quite a bit of excellent carpentry work, but more than that, provided a sense that we had a friend in our corner. As others mentioned, he was a good man, and will be very fondly remembered. (Thank you Art!) Ruth and Tannis Zboroluk 1165 Dorchester Ave Winnipeg

We first met Art in 1976 when we moved onto Old River Rd in St. Clements. Being neighbourly was part of Art’s DNA, as he enjoyed chatting, telling jokes and stories and was a very likeable guy. The first time we visited his place we remember seeing his garage which was full of just about anything you could imagine, and probably 10 of each item. We enjoyed a drink together and listened to his Duane Eddy music collection.  Art started working with Maric Construction in the late 70’s and worked alongside of Ivan Maric and myself on many commercial projects in Winnipeg and surrounding areas. But most remembered was our time in Lloydminister Sask., and Faro Yukon.  We spent 2 months in Faro, in 1983, not returning home once, and completed the finishing package and installation of cabinets. He was a great asset to our team on jobs outside Winnipeg. Anyone who knew Art, knew that he loved his coffee!!! When we were returning from Faro late in November ‘83, on black ice highways where you drove at a turtle’s pace, taking us 12 hrs to go 100 klm from one town to the next, Art was climbing the walls of our crew cab as he ran out of coffee. I also remember a researcher approaching our construction site in Winnipeg one day, asking if she could interview us about drinking coffee. Art was the perfect candidate. ‘How many cups of coffee do you drink in a day sir?’ And Art responds probably 18-25 depending on the day. And she was flabbergasted saying ‘and you’re still alive?’ But there was much more to Art Sawotin than coffee. He was a knowledgeable, precise, very detailed self taught carpenter. Always very proud of his work, able to adapt to new projects quickly and never afraid to work long hard hours. He could always keep us grounded with his many crazy jokes. He was a complete asset to Maric Construction in those years and he will always be remembered as a good man by all of us.  Our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones. May he Rest In Peace. Art was a great friend whom we have known for many years. He always enjoyed telling us about an article he had just read in the paper!  Art was such an amazing carpenter. He had such talent in creating how to build and was very articulate on  how it should be done. Many people have said how knowledgable he was in his job.  We were lucky to see him in the hospital and able to say goodbye and thank him for all The projects that he helped us build.  They are all truly a work of ART! My deepest condolences to the family.  Paul and Nancy Saltel

Art was such a generous neighbour and community member.  He was always so ready to help out and had many creative solutions to house and yard problems. I will miss our backyard visits about gardening and so many other topics.  Art was a fine man.
