CATHERINE SCHLOSSER

July 10, 1942 - January 5, 2021

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Blanche Schlosser (née Taylor) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on January 5, 2021.

Catherine is survived by her husband Wilfrid, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years; her daughter Andrea and sister Joan (Dave). She will be very much missed by her friends and family.

Catherine worked at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, ON, and then the Misericordia General Hospital Winnipeg.  Catherine (Cathy), a dedicated nurse, retired after 30 years at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg.

She loved gardening, mystery books and a good crossword puzzle.

To the nurseketeers: She valued your friendship!

Dear Mr. Schlosser, I am so very sorry for your loss and am sending you my deepest condolences at this difficult time. I remember you fondly from our days at JWC (class of 1981). I was unaware that your wife was a nurse (like me) and that your daughter shares my name. May your years of memories together provide you comfort.

Mr Schlosser.  When you were my teacher back in 1979 or so, as a young student I did not think of you having a family.  I am glad you had so many wonderful years with your wife, and I am sorry for your loss.  I hope that the good memories you have give you strength.

I am sorry for your great loss Wilf...  I am only glad that you and Catherine had such a rich life together.  In the years ahead, and indeed already, you can cherish the times that you have passed side by side in your marriage.  You will come to know Catherine in a new way - through the often bittersweet but consoling gift of memory.  Take good care.  Timothy Cowan

Dear Wilf and Andrea, I'm so sorry for your loss of Cathy, a wonderful person who I will miss very much.  I am one of the nurseketeers which you mentioned.  Cathy used to call us that...Donna, Cathy and I had a great friendship, love of good food and wine,  and each other's company.  We each spent lots of time working for "the boss", and loved every minute of it.   Cathy would come in to work at our clinic to help me out, even though she may have been having trouble walking that day, darn all those arthritic aches and pains.  She never wanted to say no. Our patients having procedures were happy to have Cathy caring for them.    Cathy and I would go to the opera together (thanks for not wanting to go, Wilf), and cry and yell Bravo at the great performances we saw together.  Most of the time, we were "chauffeured" there and back by you, Wilf, for which we were both grateful.  We spent several years in our local GI Nurses Association where Cathy was a valued contributor and willing volunteer at our conferences.    Wilf and Andrea, you have lost a wonderful wife and mother, and I have lost a very good friend.  Rest in peace, Cathy, we miss you.

Wilf and Andrea, It is with a heavy heart that I learned of Cathy's passing. During our 20 years,  working together,  in the Victoria Hospital operating room, I found her to be a caring, dedicated and very competent nurse. She had a special way of relieving stress in patients undergoing surgery. May the memories of the things she said and did, sooth the pain of her passing.

Dear Wild and Andrea.  Sonny and I were very sad to read of  Cathy’s passing,  She was always so friendly and pleasant.  She was the attending nurse when I had a procedure at the Victoria Hospital years ago, and she was so kind and comforting.  Please know you’re in our thoughts. Wilf and Andrea, Walter and I are so saddened to hear of Catherine's passing. We were next door neighbours for over 30 years, I believe, and we couldn't have asked for better neighbours than the Schlossers. Cathy or Wilf would have given you the shirt off their backs if needed. Wilf and Andrea....you are in our thoughts and we would love to connect with you soon. Love, Shirley and Walter
