NELLA SCHMIDT

February 17, 1944 – April 3, 2026

Nella Schmidt passed away on April 3 at West Park Manor.

Nella was a dedicated educator who spent many years teaching at Andrew Mynarski and Churchill High Schools.

She had a deep curiosity about the world and a love of travel, visiting every continent except Antarctica. Whether near or far, Nella embraced new experiences with enthusiasm and wonder.

Music was an important part of her life, and she was a proud member of the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir. She also found great joy in nature as an avid birdwatcher, always appreciating the beauty and diversity of the natural world.

Nella gave generously of her time as a volunteer with the Goldwings at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

Nella leaves behind a legacy of learning, service, and appreciation for the world around her.

Thanks to the staff at West Park Manor for their care and kindness. Special gratitude is given to Claudia from Home Instead, whose companionship, compassion and support meant so much.

Donations may be made in Nella’s honour to Nature Manitoba.

I sang with Nella in the Phil. I enjoyed our time making wonderful music together. Sending sympathies to her family and friends.

Nella was a friend of mine......we connected through our involvement in an International Women Educators (Delta Kappa Gamma) organization and the YWG Goldwing Ambassadors volunteer program. Nella worked hard to be flawless in all things that she undertook. She was conscientious, thorough and kind to everyone. Travel was one of her passions - always ready to take on a new adventure.

Sending sympathy to her family.

Rest in peace my friend,

June Sprott
