ARTHUR SCHULZ

June 17, 1935 - April 2, 2020

Art was born on June 17th, 1935 to Gustav and Wilhelmina Schulz in Nipawin Saskatchewan where he went to school and grew up. His grandparents, Samuel and Pauline Schielke had a homestead just west of his family where he often visited and helped.

In pursuit of work, Art moved to Winnipeg where he drove truck and owned a Roco station for a time until he got on with Greyhound Bus Lines where he proudly drove with an exemplary safe driving record for more than 35 years before retiring. He loved the road and people, so he continued to drive for Beaver Bus lines for several years during his retirement. Art stopped driving bus and eventually moved to Victoria BC with his wife and love of his life Jean Schultz.

He had made several friends over the years and was highly respected. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need and it was reflected in the wonderful things people would say about him. In his lifetime he was married three times (3rd time is a charm) and was father to six children: Linda, Debora, Richard (Deceased), Arlie-Ann, Wayne, and Arthur (Deceased). He also had a wonderful stepfamily: Terry, Patti, Bert, and Bob who treated him so very well. Art was a proud grandpa to eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He enjoyed being with Jean (his Jeanie), hosting dinners (an excellent cook), spending time with family and close friends. He also liked fishing with his boys, gardening, curling, and had a soft spot for dogs.

Art passed away peacefully in Victoria BC on April 2, 2020 and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife Jean Schultz; his children, Linda Schultz, Deborah (Wade) Zammit, Arlie-Ann Sigurdson, Wayne (Nadine) Schultz, (Birdie) Schultz; his stepchildren, Terry (Paul) Prefontaine, Patti (Len Haraburda) Rogers, Bert (Myles) Thacker, and Bob (Peerapan) Thacker; grandchildren, David Zammit, Carla Kitkoski, Lauren Zammit, Neeley Rebel Fluke, Clinton Kitkoski, Sabrina Schultz, Jordan Krost, Tyler Krost, Grayson Schultz, Jayden Schultz, and Tyson Schultz; seven great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was such a good man. Every time i seen him, he had a smile on his face except the day I first met him approximately in 1989. Oh he was smiling alright but not at me, at the TV.  Little Artie introduced me to big Art but it just happened to be right in front of the tv. I said hello, and he replied "outta the way", but i didn't know what i was in the way of. Then i heard the loud bell ring, and next i hear,  "and there off". Turns out he had placed a bet on the horses. He didn't win, but smiled at me and shook my hand when it was over. My condolences to the Family.

The first time I met Art, he brought a bus tour to Vancouver and was staying just down the street from The Bay, where I worked.  He came to see me, introduced himself and said he knew my mother.  We talked for a few minutes and then he said he knew Mom pretty well.  We talked a little longer and Art said he had been seeing a bit of my Mom.  We talked some more and Art then told me he had seen a lot of my Mom and they were actually dating.   Great memories of drinking rum and playing crib with Art.   Terry

Our best memories were family dinners.  Art was a very good cook.   We loved going to the lake at Valhalla and sitting around a camp fire.  There were no street lights so you could see the stars and satellites.  Jack and Judy often set with us around the fire.  In the morning we would have pickerel fillets for breakfast.  We also played cards or cribbage.  I miss him dearly.  We had some great memories.  Love Jeannie xo

Miss my best uncle too.I knew him well and he enjoyed my last visit in Victoria with my family. We had a special bond from years of living in Kichener before he married my dear aunt Catherine. See you in heaven. Your sonny boy Robert.

Dad loved the outdoors, and often took us on drives to pick wild berries followed by an outdoor fire and wiener roast. Those are such great memories for me!   I also loved to hear stories of his growing up on the farm.  He loved the big draft horses they used for farm work.  He talked about riding one to school!  His love of the outdoors and animals is something he passed on to me, and I so grateful for that!   Camping trips were great fun with him!! Usually, those trips included fresh caught fish.  Fishing, yes, it was his passion!   A very memorable trip he took, was a charter he drove to Churchill, MB, where he saw polar bears up close!  It was an amazing experience that he loved to recall.   As his mobility became more difficult, he and Jean would drive to the Lagoon in Victoria just to feed and watch the birds. Those were precious times he shared with Jean.  His helper and friend, Matthew would take him on drives to enjoy the outdoors and spot deer.  It meant a lot to him, and brought him much joy! I know that he is now enjoying Heaven, which he longed for near the end.  He looked forward to being in the presence of God, and seeing loved ones, who had gone before him.  I know I will see him again, and that is a great comfort.   Thanks to Wayne Schultz for putting this together and providing a place write about Dad!!

So many great memories of Art, we first met him over 50 years ago . He and my sister Valerie met at Greyhound, he became Jacks best friend and we enjoyed great times with them. And the special memories of get togethers with Art and Jean,  our laughs Jean over card games, the weekends at the cottage, not to mention Arts meals,.. and Jean and I would do the dishes .. Wonderful times to be treasured forever. Rest In Peace Art, you lived a full life, and a friend to all...
