JUDY PAULETTA SCOTT

October 2, 1950 – March 29, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Judy Pauletta Scott on March 29, 2025, at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg with family at her side. Judy was born October 2, 1950, in Grand Bank, Newfoundland. She was a free spirit who called many provinces home including Newfoundland, Ontario, and Northern Manitoba before eventually settling in Winnipeg – where she and her beloved husband Richard, and their dog, Janie lived.

Judy was the middle daughter of 14 siblings, a powerful and charismatic force who was fortunate to be part of many families. She was blessed with four children, Sherry, Tracy, Paul, and Michael, and of course, her constant companion in the end Janie. Judy’s legacy lives on with her grandchildren Mitchell and Jenna, Madison and Greyson. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her especially her family.

Judy was a master cook, whose kitchen was her kingdom. She happily made chocolate chip cookies for her favourite Cookie Monster Mitchell. She believed in starting dinner early, actually it was just after breakfast and it cooked for hours. Resulting in hard, dry, leather-textured meats that were “not burnt, just browned.” But no need to worry should a germ survived the cooking process it was destroyed by the Javex your plate had been washed in.

Mom loved to shop. If shopping were an Olympic sport, Mom would’ve been a gold medallist. She was definitely the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).

She was known for her impeccable sense of style. A true fashionista, Judy’s wardrobe was full of chic, well-coordinated outfits, and she was always dressed to the nines; she believed in putting her best foot forward, and often that was a pink heel. Her granddaughter, Jenna, was schooled when she attempted to attend a dental appointment in sweatpants.

Judy’s eye for beauty extended beyond fashion and into her home. She spent countless hours in Winners perusing the store. So much time that when she entered the store, the staff yelled “Judy” similar to the greeting the loveable Norm received at the Cheers Bar. While shopping, she gathered inspiration for colours and current trends, that inevitably resulted in painting or moving her furniture. All of which was done under her supervision by her assistant Richard. We can honestly say a sofa never lived in one location for more than three months. This moving of the furniture allowed her to clean; another favourite hobby of hers. According to mom if you weren’t on your hands and knees scrubbing with Javex, you weren’t cleaning things and it was “maggoty.” Paul and Micheal quickly learned, once a room had been vacuumed it was off limits, footprints would disturb the freshly vacuumed carpet lines.

Nothing brought more joy to Mom than holidays, particularly Christmas. From her beautifully decorated tree that went up in November, let’s be honest it was October. To the gorgeous table settings with her fancy pink china, the Crystal dishes sprinkled everywhere leading to some calling her Auntie Crystal. She would cook everyone’s favourite and gather her family close.

So lift a glass or preferably a can of Pepsi with a skinny straw to a beautiful woman who touched many. She lived her life to the fullest as long as that was over by 7 o’clock. Always bringing the sparkle.

A special thank you to the staff of Victoria, General Hospital. The doctors who worked hard to care for Mom and the endless list of nurses and healthcare aids who tirelessly and compassionately cared for not only mom, but her family. Thank you.

In the words of her family, “The passing of someone you love is like carrying around a heavy rock in your pocket. It is a burden, and as time passes, you get stronger, but the weight never leaves you.”

Mom, we love you.

Christmas will never

be the same without you.

Rest in peace,

beautiful woman.

Judy’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I just heard about Judy. I am shocked and saddened. Judy was a lovely lady, so warm and caring. Her biggest love was her Richard and all her family. Glad that I knew her and always thought what a force of nature she was! Certainly a going conern with great empathy for all she met. A huge loss to her children, she will live in your memories forever. We both lost our husbands about the same time so you really know a person how they care for you, even in her own sorrow. Rest in peace Judy, you earned it. Leslie Sammons, friend

Oh Judy , my darling friend , I can barely navigate around the belief of your passing. You had, to my relief telephoned me in early March expressing that you were in hospital at the Victoria, but hopefully were returning home soon and there We could enjoy the company of a visit. We spoke of the enjoyment that life offered, reminisced and laughed. You were thrilled of the video you had just received of Janey chasing the squirrels in your daughters back yard.

Oh Judy , I miss you girl, and your adorable wee Janey. I miss your smile, your infectious laugh, how you lit up the room with your light. You are a beautiful soul who left a bit of your sparkle wherever went.

I will forever hold dear and treasure our last conversation. Keep Smiling, Keep Shining Judy. I still carry with me a card signed by all who treasured your presence at "Smitty"s. I was coming for a visit and to present it to you on the day I learned of your passing. You are Oh, so truly missed.

"Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings in Heaven were those who We love shine down to let us know they are happy"

Such an amazing tribute to the celebration of your life. Sending My heartfelt condolences. May love and light forever surround your family , Janey and loved ones. .

The world will not be the same without her but. at least she's free of pain and suffering

What a lovely soul.

I just met Judy in October. She was the first to welcome me to my new apartment...well her and of course Janie. In that short time we shared several visits which the topic was always of her family and how proud she was of all.

Judy's flair for decor was very obvious, as every time I entered her suite it had been beautifully rearranged

My condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear of Judy's passing. we were close friends during our younger years in Buchans. Always having a laugh and a song.

Rememser her well when she lived in Springdale and I had a business there. We reconnected after her being away for a few years.

I always admired how strong and determined she was to make a good life for her and her girls. She left Springdale with the girls and drove all the way to Manitoba, where she settled down .

We would contact each other over the years just to catch up on our lives.

she was one of those friends that we wouldn't talk or see each other for months even years, but whenever we connected it was just like we were talking every day. She will always have a place in my heart.

Condolences to her family . RIP Judy.💕

Aunt Judy was a beautiful soul and her tribute is so true to her character!

Everytime I hear Ricky Van Shelton I think of her and how she used to sing it so loud with her sisters! They sure loved to sing together. We will miss her so much and are holding you all in our hearts. Hope she's singing away up there in heaven!

What a beautiful tribute for a special lady. My last memory of Judy was a month ago while visiting her at the Grace hospital. Judy quickly perked up and greeted us with a huge smile and hugs. She then asked me if she could try on my glasses because she loved them And she fancied my blue coat.

I will always remember Judy for her beautiful smile, style and grace that she always had.

She will be forever missed!

I forgot to leave a favorite memory. My most recent favorite memory was when, at a Christmas dinner, she smuggled me a loaf of her delicious homemade bread and told me not to tell Sherry and Tracy lol. I ate it all with abandon and loved the forbidden bread.
