LARRY SEEL

March 20, 1955 – July 17, 2023

On Monday July 17, 2023, with his wife and daughters at his side, Larry passed away.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Judy; daughters, Averill, Lisa, and Brenley; sons-in-law, Brennan, Mike, and Neil; his six grandsons, Valen, Bryce, Griffin, Jordy, Kai, and Keenan. His wife and family were his “be all and end all” and he made sure to let them know that he was very proud of all of them. Larry also leaves to mourn his sister-in-law, Nancy; brother-in-law Bob (Robyn); extended family, and a multitude of friends. He was predeceased by both his parents, Don and Margaret Seel; his brother Brian; sister-in-law Laurie; and his in-laws, Bill and Gwen Leigh.

Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Khartum Shriners, at one time being the youngest Shriner in Canada. Larry worked in the transportation industry for 40+ years. He started off at White Truck Sales in the parts department and worked his way up to Parts Manager. From there, he moved on to Detroit Diesel Allison where he worked in Sales and Sales Management. Throughout his career, he was very active in the Manitoba Trucking Association, serving on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Associated Trades Division. Larry had an extremely strong work ethic and his knowledge and attention to detail made him successful. Through these years he was twice awarded Associate of the Year as well as Parts Manager of the Year. For the past six years Larry has served as president of Allure Condo and prior to that was on the inaugural board.

Larry was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bomber Fan and a proud 30+ year season ticket holder. He cheered on the blue and gold through thick and thin. Larry’s optimism with his beloved team transferred to every day life. He was always the calm in the storm and a rock for his family. Larry loved to enjoy a cold beer while playing a card game and treasured watching his grandchildren play and grow. Papa Seel was always known to have readily available treats and a gentle smirk on his face when he handed them out. It didn’t seem to matter where Larry was, he “went with the flow” and was praised for his warm and patient nature. Larry was always up for a party and spending time with friends. He cherished the 11 winters he spent with the love of his life in Coral Sands, Phoenix, Arizona doing just that. One of his favourite sayings was “you only go round once”!

Although the outcome was not what we had hoped, Larry fought with the spirit of a warrior to stay with us. The family would like to thank the terrific teams involved in Transplant both at HSC Winnipeg and Edmonton University Hospitals. As well as the amazing staff of GH6 at HSC who showed their continuous support over these last 9 months. The Family would also like to thank Cancer Care Manitoba and the Winnipeg IPF Support Group and Caregiver’s Group. You all gave us the opportunity for hope with his new lungs.

At Larry’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no traditional service. However, the family would like to invite you to Larry’s Final Farewell, Thursday, August 10, 2023, 7 – 9:30 p.m. at the Masonic Memorial Centre, 420 Corydon Avenue. We ask that you come in casual dress, preferably Blue Bomber gear! In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Larry to Cerebral Palsy Manitoba (cerebralpalsy.mb.ca) or another charity of your choice.

Larry’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Judy and Family, We were so sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. He is gone way too soon.  We have so many great memories of our monthly poker games and Sysco events.  Our crazy camping trips with the group to Carberry and Falcon Lake stand out to us. So many good times and belly laughs.  We are toasting Larry and thinking of you.❤️ Sherri and Gerald

Judy and family, This video was a beautiful tribute to Larry, who was a wonderful neighbour and a kind, genuine man who will be missed by all of us at the Allure. He was always willing to to talk about how things were going and, of course, the results of the latest Blue Bomber game. Thinking of you, Brian and Monique. ❤

Sending so much love and light from all of us to all of you. We are so blessed to have known a man as genuine, kind and as sincere as Larry.  His love for all of you was always number one. Seems ages since we met getting off that bus so many years ago. Who could  have imagined a lifelong friendship would be so easily forged. Larry's great wit and humor will not soon be forgotten. I remember sharing with him that we were quite proud that Minnesota was the land of 10,000 lakes and it was our state's claim to fame. He quickly replied that Ontario wanted to use the same line on their license plates. When I asked why they hadn't used it, he replied, "Well, we didn't want to one-up you."  We shared mutual annoyance at even the slightest possibility of getting a door ding in a parking lot. Larry's wise words were, "Always find the nice cars. Park there Cheryl." And, how many times did Judy take me shopping?  Thank GOD I had Larry to hang out with while we waited outside the stores. So many visits just sitting around kitchen tables, laughing and drinking and telling stories. He surely loved you Judy, just as you loved him. We have endless tales of crazy, fun times will always be etched in our memories and the Seel family will always be a part of who we are and a part of our family. We are blessed having known you and we look forward to the next time we meet.  Thank you Larry for all the good times. Crown Royal and lots of love forever. ❤  David, Cheryl, Carrie, Ericka and families.

Judy and family, I was truly saddened to learn of Larry's passing. I first met Larry through the MTA in. 1994. Right from our first meeting Larry's commitment to our industry was evident and continued until his retirement. Whenever there was a request for assistance, Larry was always one of the first to step forward. Over the years Larry fulfilled many roles within the MTA. It was a privilege to work with Larry at the MTA and our Manitoba industry is better for his contributions. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers to Judy and their family.

Judy what a beautiful obituary tribute and video in memory of Larry. I have only known Judy ad Larry since I moved into the condo three years ago.  It did not take long to recognize what a proud man Larry was and how much he love Judy and his family.  I am so sorry that things turned out the way they did when everyone held so much hope for the success of the transplant.  Larry endured so much and fought so hard to stay with Judy and his beloved family. Judy is the most amazing and strongest person I have ever met and was by his side every day of the long journey. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you move forward without Larry by your side but always on your special memories of him.  He is in the arms of an angel and free from pain. I am hear for you Judy...Hugs Cheryl

So many fond memories of times with Judy and Larry.   Whether it was playing a silly game at their kitchen table, or our monthly poker parties with the gang, or piling up a bunch of crazy Manitobans into a motorhome to drive through storms to Calgary to get to the the Grey Cup.  No matter what we did we always had so much fun and usually got into a little bit of trouble “Larry style”.  Such a special man that always made time for everyone.  A dear friend that will be missed by so many.   Rest in peace Lars….love Kim (and Tim)❤

Judy and family Larry and I worked together at Midwest Detroit Diesel and its successors for 20+ years, sharing an office in the beginning years and had many discussions over countless lunches, coffee breaks, Trade Shows, and many other MTA related events. With his background in the trucking industry, what became clear was his innate knowledge of the business and how it worked, which in turn was of great help to a relative outsider like me. What was even more abundantly clear was his love for his family and his pride in their many achievements. He shall be missed Eldon and Willie

Dear Averill and all your family, I was deeply saddened to learn of your dear Dad's passing. The courage and tenacity he displayed through his transplant journey, subsequent set backs and challenges, is a testament to the love he had for his family.  Although I don't know your Mom, I'm sending supporting thoughts her way at this sad time. To all of you, my sincere condolences.
