DARLENE LORRAINE SEMAN

Darlene Seman, born in Winnipeg November 21, 1946, passed away suddenly in the Concordia Hospital on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 7 in the Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place.

Our mom's sudden passing has left a hole in our hearts.  She was the glue that held our family together by ensuring family traditions were carried out and she tried to make everyone feel special through her thoughtful cards, words, phone calls and gifts.  Mom has so much love in her heart and taught us to appreciate the small things and to recognize how blessed we are.  She instilled God into our lives as she walked hand in hand with God throughout her life.

She was very sentimental.  She kept and treasured every card, drawing and picture given to her.  She found so much joy and happiness in spending time with her family.  She loved the outdoors - camping, fishing (she was even a Master Angler) and traveling.

My mom and dad have so many wonderful memories of fishing and their travels across Canada and around the US.  She loved bowling and playing piano.  Mom and dad have spent a lifetime together building their family and memories.  They have known each other for 59 years and married for 48 of those years.  Can you believe she was only 11 years old when they first met.

Listening to my dad reminisce about their past has taught us so much about our mom's life.  She was fun and had a sense of adventure.

​

She was born in Winnipeg on November 21, 1946 to Walter and Rosalia Grenkow and has 1 sister (Heather) and 4 brothers (Walter, Rick, Paul, Charles).  Mom is described as a child who liked to laugh and have fun.  All the pictures we had the pleasure of going through show a beautiful girl/woman who had a smile that can light up the world.  She looked happy and playful in these pictures which has left us with such cherished images forever.

Mom and dad started dating in high school.  Mom then went to British Columbia to obtain her education as a dental assistant.  She then came back to Winnipeg and called up Bill and that was the start of their beautiful lifetime romance.

​

Then came us, her children, Billy, Lauri-Anne and Jody to add to her beautiful life and memories.  We have countless beautiful memories of family gatherings, camping at Camp Neustadtt, trips and fishing.  She was an avid gardener and animal lover.  She has tried to pass on her amazing knowledge of flowers and plants and our home was rarely without a pet, including chipmunks and birds in our yard.

Her life's journey continued with the addition of all her beloved grandchildren Mary, Alyssa, William, Aiden, Sterling and Julia.  These children were her pride and joy and she took such a active interest in all their lives and the extracurricular activities they were in.  She always made a point of attending all their events (dance, soccer, swimming, concerts and many more).

We have reminisced over so many special stories over the past days, we just wish our mother could have been the one to sit around a table with us and go through pictures and tell us stories of her fascinating life.  We always think we have time but life often has different plans.

​

When we asked our dad, Bill, what he wanted to share he said that Darlene has so much love and that she was an absolutely wonderful wife, mother and friend.  He will miss her dearly.  How can you possibly sum up a lifetime together?  One story our dad shared of a long tradition she has kept going for over 80 years.  Our mom's grandmother, Nan, started the tradition of caring for and passing down clippings of geraniums.  She then passed it on to our mom's mother, Rosalia, and her mother to passed it on to our mother.  We are honored to continue this tradition and will be blessed with a beautiful reminder of our beloved mom.

Mom we will miss you dearly and try to carry on the strong traditions and sense of family you instilled in us. We will continue to share your stories and memories with our children so you will always be remembered and cherished.  Mom, there will always be a place set at our table for you. Please watch over all of us until we meet again.
