GLEN ANTHONY SEMANIUK

June 13, 1951 – February 21, 2025

With deep sadness, we announce that Glen passed away on February 21st at the age of 73.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Diane; children, Kristy (Darren) and Joel (Nikki); grandchildren, Logan, April and Maya; siblings; Lydia (Bob), Bob (Claudia), Elizabeth (Ronnie), and Kelly, sister-in-law; Shirley (John), brother-in-law; Ron (Cathy) and his extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Matt and Olive; brother, Leonard; mother and father-in-law, Stella and Clarence; and brothers-in-law Allan, Dave and Bill.

Glen was born in Birtle, MB in 1951, and then raised on the family farm in Angusville. In 1966, the family moved to big city of Foxwarren, MB, where Glen spent the next 4 years. Upon graduation from high school in 1970, he moved to Thompson, MB to work for INCO. In 1974, he continued north to Lynn Lake and began work as an electrical apprentice at Sherritt-Gordon Mines. Glen and Diane met in 1975, but did not begin their relationship until 1978.When Diane relocated to Winnipeg in 1978 for an employment opportunity, Glen decided to come along. Glen found employment with Dominion Bridge, and then transferred to Manitoba Rolling Mills in Selkirk, MB. Glen and Diane married in 1979. They welcomed their children, Kristy and Joel in Winnipeg and then settled in Oakbank, MB in 1986. Glen continued his employment at Manitoba Rolling Mills for 32 years as an electrician. He retired from “The Plant” in 2011.

Glen had a passion for sports, especially baseball. His love for baseball started at an early age, while he was still living on the family farm. Luckily, he had a talent for the sport and was invited to play with older teams, which enabled him to avoid farm chores. Over the years, Glen was involved with many sports, including curling, umping ball, and announcing hockey games. Glen was the inaugural voice of the ‘Springfield 98s’ hockey team in Oakbank. He coached numerous ball teams, including his son Joel’s, for several years. Though Glen never strapped on skates, he loved to watch and critique hockey whether it was his son Joel's teams or professional teams. Many lifelong friendships were made through these sports.

While Diane was working in Ottawa Glen was able to join her in numerous Provinces and Cities throughout Canada with Nova Scotia, PEI and Montreal being his favourites.

Once Diane retired, Glen and Diane made several trips to hotter destinations such as Jamaica, Mexico, Cuba and of course, the Cruise of a lifetime to many Carribean ports. Our trips to the US to see many Professional Baseball games were his very, very favourite!!

Glen had a nickname for everybody, including himself. Glen was also known as “Beaver”. In retirement, ‘Beaver’ was busier than ever. He continued to ump ball, he followed his grandson’s sports teams and watched every televised sporting event. Glen could always be found ‘cruising’ around Oakbank and was a regular at numerous local coffee shops in order to keep in the know!!! He was a fixture in the community and will be greatly missed.

Glen was the life of the party. He was frugal but generous to others. He had an extensive collection of hats and jackets. He loved his food and would be eating seconds before the rest of the table was served. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow.

Glen,

We hope you are enjoying

Stella’s head cheese and

having a beer with Clarence.

You can be a ‘Busy Beaver’ again

and nothing makes us happier.

The family would like to thank the St. Boniface Hospital staff on 5A Cardiology; The Bergen Cardiac Care Clinic, specifically Dr. James Tam; Dr. Justin Walters of the St. Boniface Kidney Health Clinic; and especially our daughter-in-law Nikki, who has helped us navigate the health care system for the past 7.5 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14th 2025 at Foxwarren Cemetery (Provincial Road 475), in Forwarren, MB. A luncheon at the Foxwarren Leisure Centre will follow the service.

Glen’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

A great man and a great coach. The years playing baseball with Glen as our coach were full of great memories. There used to be a 'code-word' for the the 'pick-off' at second base - "Big Mac and Fries". Coach Glen would yell from the sidelines "How about a Big Mac and Fries Guys!"....and we knew the play was set. My condolences to the family.

It was always a pleasure to be in Glen's presence. Salt of the Earth guy. He kept baseball and hockey fun for our son, Andrew, and all of his team mates. Thanks for the memories. Peace be with his family.

I worked with Glen (aka Glenny) at " the plant " for many years.

i was one of his first apprentices.

He was quite the jokester and we had a lot of laughs which made the job even more enjoyable. He was the real coach of our

Checkmates slowpitch team and we even won a tournament under his guidance..Never one to say no to a beer we shared some great times solving all the problems at "the plant" as well.

my sincere condolences to the family.

Diane, I extend my deepest condolences. I was truly taken aback when I came across the obituary. My mind went back to my unexpected visit to your home. It was a good visit filled with laughter and memories. Glen was in good humor that day. I am sure we will meet Diane somewhere in Transcona and a huge hug will be waiting for you.

I've known Glen for what seems forever. He was always ready with a smile, a grin or a sly smirk (if he was going to pull a fast one on you). My heartfelt condolences to Diane, Kristi, Joel, their families as well as Glen's extended family. May your happy memories carry you through.

I can't recall a time that I didn't know Glen and Diane. I'm certain we met when our kids were in skating lessons in Oakbank. Glen was always ready with a smile, grin or a smirk when he was ready to pull a fast one on you. He was instrumental in helping my son get a job at Gerdau (Manitoba Rolling Mills) many years ago. My heart goes out to Diane, Kristi, Joel, their families and Glen's extended family. We are never ready to see our loved ones us, regardless how long it's expected. My deepest condolences to you all. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
