ADELINE SEMENIUK

(née Serwa)

March 20, 1939 - February 1, 2025

With heartbreaking sorrow, deepest love and respect, the family of Adeline (Adelia) Semeniuk (née Serwa) previously of Pine River and recently of Winnipeg share the news of the passing of our beloved Mother, Nana & Baba Nana.

As was her wish, mom passed away peacefully at her home cradled in the love and care of her seven children. She is perfectly healed and set free.

Adeline was the fifth child born to Eugenia (Jennie Soloway) and Nicholas Serwa. She grew up with seven siblings on their family farm in Pulp River, Manitoba.

She was predeceased by her parents, her soulmate Adam, parents-in-law, brothers Frank, Albert, Nestor & Ernie; sisters Mary and Eleanor; siblings-in-law Helen Danylyshyn, Pauline Semeniuk, Effie Brezden, Mary Serwa, Paul Currie, Michael Syrnyk, Anthony Semeniuk, Joseph Semenick, Marg Serwa, nephews Shawn Currie, Kenneth Syrnyk, Adam Syrnyk and many other dear extended family members.

She is survived by her loving children; Arlene Rehaluk (Greg) Sandra Love (Mackie), Mark (Bonnie), Audrey, Lyle (Bridget), Richard (Lynn) and Dawn Cayer (Michael).

Beloved grandchildren who called her Nana are Monique Rainville, Dondina Krieser (Andrew), Lisa Rehaluk (Ryan), Belinda Rehaluk (Justin), Michael Rehaluk, Allison Love (Max) Steven Love (Karley), Madeline Cayer, Benjamin Cayer, Sarah Kopytko and Jack Kopytko.

Her precious great-grandchildren are Kara Krieser, Jacob Rehaluk, Clay Love, Liam Love, Ophelia Bristol and Isla Stephenson.

She is also survived by her brother Edward Serwa and dear in-laws Steffie & John Karalash, Beverly Martin, Irene Serwa Luke and many nieces, nephews and extended family, all of whom she treasured.

Adeline was born March 20, 1939 at Dauphin Hospital and grew up in Pulp River, 12 miles east of Pine River, Manitoba. She attended Asquith Country School and Pine River School; completing Grade 11 education at Fort Churchill High School when she went to help her aunt and uncle with their restaurant and newly adopted son.

Adeline married Adam Semeniuk in Dauphin on January 12, 1957 and settled in Pine River where Adam had established an agricultural/automotive supply business known as Northern Motors.

Together they shared a dream of raising a loving family while contributing to the betterment of rural life in their small community and surrounding area. They both loved their community and were very active, dedicated volunteers who also chose to serve as willing leaders in many executive positions; some as long as 30 years. They hoped that as long as there was need and interest, it would help and benefit everyone living there. They were diligent and selfless.

While working alongside Adam in the family business and doing bookwork during late nights, mom was also an exemplary homemaker, mother and hostess. She raised her seven children in a loving and lively environment with discipline, humour and encouragement.

Mom had intrinsic passion and understanding of Ukrainian heritage and culture. She shared this with her cousin and best friend Nettie Ziolkowski Prysiazniuk with whom she collaborated in forming the Natalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble & Choir of Pine River.

Mom hosted many huge family celebrations during holidays and special events and worked so hard to ensure they were complete with every delicious Ukrainian culinary dish. The family togetherness was so important to her when she was hosting and she always made sure to take family pictures to commemorate the events.

She was a beautiful giving soul, who worked hard to care for those she loved, those in need, and the community that she loved. We were so lucky to have her as our exemplary Mother.

Mom, for every sacrifice you made, for every pain and heartache you soothed, shared and endured, for every dream that you stood behind...we love you so very much!

Adeline's family requests that rather than floral tributes, please make a charitable donation in her name to a charity of your choice. She had so many she supported and were close to her heart. An act of kindness or providing a nurturing environment for all wild birds that she loved would also be appreciated.

A Celebration of Life service honouring Adeline will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Sneath Strilchuk Family Care Centre, Dauphin Manitoba.

The family will also be honouring husband/dad Adam who passed away December 8, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic & were unable to hold a service in his memory.

I feel so blessed to have gotten to know dear Adeline even though it was for such a short time.

She was such a sweet person, and I think of her every day when I sit down for meals at the table where she sat at Dakota House.

Knowing she is now with her Lord and Savior, and free of pain, helps ease the sadness of her passing.

My deepest sympathy to her loving family.

Love, Ruby Patrick

We are so sorry to hear of Adeline's passing. A mother is the heart of the family, and her memory will live on in all of you. She was such a wonderful lady, always so friendly and kind! What an excellent and amazing cook she was as well!! She shared many of her recipes so willingly with me over the years, and I have had rave reviews from our family and friends on each one she shared with me!! Her recipes for hot dog relish, deep dish lasagna, sweet'n sour meatballs, fresh blueberry pie and petite cherry chhesecakes are still family favourites at our house, to name a few!! We spent many hours on the phone after Adeline moved to Winnipeg, as she was so easy to talk to, and I will miss those phone calls very much. May you find comfort in the memories you hold so dear in your heart and praying these precious memories soften the sadness and sustain you in this difficult time. With deepest sympathy, heart to heart hugs and love, Eugenia and Dave Unrau & family

Aunt Adelia will be remembered with much love and many smiles. The memories are so many and so personal to our family. Her mom Genie (Soloway) Serva and her siblings brought up their children to be close first cousins. Family was /is important. Adeline continued that practice. That feeling of being special remained no matter how much time passed between visits... everyone mattered. Auntie you will always be in our hearts. Arlene, Sandra, Audrey, Mark, Lyle, Richard, Dawn our love and condolences go out to you and your families at this time. "Vichnaya Pamyat"

While growing up in Pine River and as a member of the Natalka dancers, I have many fond memories of your parents. From going to Northern Motors with my grandma as a kid and when I was old enough to drive and also seeing them in the audience at the Ukrainian dancing concerts! My condolences to your family.
