Think of Our Dad, when you take a walk in the country and hear the wildlife, the river flow, the cool breeze in the air of fall, and the sound of guns in the distance during hunting season.

David Alexander Shandroski of Hadashville, Manitoba, passed away on Sunday August 21, 2022 after reaching the age of 80 years old. He died peacefully at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB with his beloved wife Annie and children by his side.

David was born January 12, 1942, in Winnipeg, MB, but grew up and spent most of his life in Hadashville.  His parents Frank and Frances Shandroski raised him and his 2 brothers (Richard and Melvin) while running several local businesses including the General Store and a John Deere Dealership. David spent a good part of his childhood hunting and fishing with his father and brothers and often told many stories about growing up in the area and spending time in the bush or along the river.  He always remembered his childhood fondly, especially time spent with his best friend Vincent Vanbuskirk.

As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself and his family. He worked on the railway, in the mill, on roads, and even some accounting and payroll, but Dave’s longest job was at the peatmoss plant in Elma, Manitoba.  He spent 42 years at Fisons, and worked with many family, and friends.  Dave often told stories of his time at work and the people he worked with.  He was even a union rep for years and spent some time on many picket lines.

In 1966, Dave met the love of his life, Annie Kellner and after a whirlwind 3-month relationship they married in November 26, 1966.  They lived together almost inseparable for over 56 years. They spent time in Thompson, Kenora, and eventually settled back in Hadashville, where they raised 4 children.  In 2017 Dave and Annie moved to Lorette with their daughter Lisa, who lovingly cared for them until Dave’s passing.

David loved to tell stories, and always seemed to enjoy a little bit of gossip.  There was never any thing better or that he loved more then having a good meal, a glass or wine or two or more and spending time sitting around telling tales with family and friends.  He told the best stories and they will be forever be missed.

His children meant everything to him.  He spent a lot of time hunting and fishing with all his kids, and he continued to spend that time with them as they grew up and in-laws and grandchildren came along.

David was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many!

He is preceded in death by his parents (Frank and Frances Shandroski), brothers (Richard and Melvin Shandroski), sister-in-law (Francis Shandroski) niece Jackie Sommerfeld, and Grandson Lukas Shandroski.

David is survived by his loving wife, Annie Shandroski; children, Vincent (Tracey), Vanessa (Jeff), Lisa (Frank), David (Kristan); 10 Grandchildren (Nathan, Annie, Quinn, Nash, Aiden, Evan, Joesph, William, Taylor and Maksim; a host of nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and relatives; as well as large extended family.

A special thanks to everyone to help care for Dave in the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, and the Menno Home for the Aged in Grunthal, in the past few months, all you did is greatly appreciated by everyone in the family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 2:00pm at Hadashville Recreation Centre, 45030 Provincial Trunk Hwy 11, Hadashville, MB.

Thank you, Dad, you have left us with a life time of memories, your humour will be hard to match. We will forever love you and miss you.

David, since the time has come to celebrate your life, unfortunately we will only see a sample of the lives you touched; as they come to pay their last respects, to thank you for your friendship and the memories they hold dear. I am so glad we recently connected during the burial of my parents. Although I had only seen you sporadically since my early 20s, I always felt time and distance never separated. You were always warm and inviting, friendship was prominent. I always felt I was more than just family. Goes to show you, how your spirit carried you. It’s been a privilege David, thank-you, until we meet again. Randy

Growing up in Hadashville,  I've had the pleasure of knowing David my whole life.  He was gifted with a wonderful sense of humor and the ability of a talented comedian.  With Annie by his side, they were a talented and funny dynamic duo. He was always a good friend and neighbor and I will always remember him fondly.  My sympathy to the whole family.  I know he has left you with an abundance of happy memories to treasure.
