DOROTHY SHARE

(née Nash)

March 1, 1930 – June 27, 2020

On Saturday, June 27, 2020, Dorothy Share passed away at the age of 90 years. She is predeceased by her parents John and Beatrice (née Milner) and her husband Michael.

She is survived by her four children Peter (Jeannie), Brian (Angela), Kathleen (Craig) and Sean (Leah); 10 grandchildren Sasha (Leeann), James, Stephen, Michael, Matthew, Heidi, Bradley, Kyle, Elizabeth and Jocélène, as well as one great-grandchild, Lachlan.

Dorothy was born and raised in York, England.  She graduated from her general nursing training at Staincliffe General Hospital in 1951. She then went on to obtain her Midwifery Certificate at Kirkcaldy Hospital in Scotland by 1952. Between 1952 and 1956 she worked as a midwife in Scotland.

Dorothy immigrated to Canada in 1956 with some friends and took the train across Canada, eventually arriving in Vancouver. She worked part-time at the Grace Hospital in Vancouver for a few months before getting a position in Lytton, B.C.

It was in Lytton that she met Michael; they were married in 1959 and she took time off nursing to raise their four children. When Dorothy returned to nursing, she worked as a ward nurse, x-ray technician and head nurse until her retirement in 1995. She described many of her work colleagues as a second family.

Dorothy liked to travel, many family vacations involved the entire family piling into the station wagon and heading to their destination. She went on many trips with her best friend Ruth. She also returned home to England multiple times and travelled throughout Europe.

In her spare time Dorothy enjoyed doing word puzzles, crossword puzzles being her favourite and something that often became a group effort with the whole family chiming in with answers.

Our Mum will always be remembered fondly for her warm smile and keen sense of humour. She took to the role of grandmother and great-grandmother with great love. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grand and great-grandchildren; they would often bring the biggest smiles to her face.

As per Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a small remembrance ceremony was held at one of her favorite places to be, Oak Hammock Marsh. The family would like to encourage all of Dorothy’s friends and relatives to share their personal stories, photos, and memories of her by making use of the comment section on this page, all are greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I only got the privilege of knowing this great woman for a few short years. It sure didn't take long for her to win my heart 💓. She was an inspiration. A strong, fantastic woman who modelled to all how to live life. Her legacy will live on in her children and grandchildren whom she was dedicated to raising. And she did an exemplary job of it! I am honored to have met her and to be connected to her amazing family. I regret not knowing her husband, as from the stories I have heard, I am certain I would have loved him too. I am happy Dorothy got to live a long healthy life and that she died in peace. She touched many lives and we are all better because of her existence. I will miss her and I will remember her greatness.❤❤❤

Dorothy was a lovely, friendly always smiling and positive lady that I enjoyed seeing ya Concordia Village while she lived there! She was such a kind soul who ALWAYS asked how my family and I were doing and took the time to ask questions and truly listen and care. She made me feel special, anytime she saw me with her excited and happy hello!! ❤ She sure will he missed by all staff and residents at Concordia Village, CV1 just won’t be the same without her beautiful smile lighting up the room! When Dorothy came to live here in Winnipeg at Concordia Village it did not take long for her to become a cherished member of the big Concordia Village extended Family.  We all enjoyed having conversations with her and getting to know Sean and Leah and the girls.  She is missed !

😆 I had the priviledge of working in Lytton with Dorothy.  She was my first employer when I immigrated tp Canada in 1982.  I learnt a great deal about rural nursing in Canada through her and I fondly remember the many laughs we had at St Bartholomew's hospital.  A wonderful roll model 👍
