PETER SHARPLES

After a third, valiant battle with cancer, Peter passed peacefully on April 25, 2023.  Peter is survived by his wife of 36 years, Yvonne, and mom-in-law Helen.

Born in Montreal on May 29, 1946, Peter moved to Manitoba from Quebec in the early 80’s.  A master HVAC journeyman, he was well-known and respected by his many work associates over the years.  He loved to experience new places and had the opportunity, sometimes while working on a project, to see most of North America, as well as destinations in Europe and Asia… work was especially rewarding when he could bring his Harley along or have Yvonne join him as a tourist after the job was finished.

Through the years, Peter had many pastimes, hunting, fishing, disk golf, motorcycle riding and restoration, and was lovingly given the nickname “Overkill” for his over-engineered and exacting methods.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended several races.

Since retiring he became as passionate about raising monarch butterflies as his wife, a full-time job from June until September.  He loved to share his tales of travel and adventure and was a master storyteller, bringing a laugh to everyone.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. We ask in lieu of flowers, folks donate to the amazing organization that is CancerCare Manitoba, the folks who Peter regularly acknowledged as giving him at least an extra decade of this earthly life.

“Peter and I have been infinitely blessed for the enduring love and support of immediate family, the many folks we consider family, my squad of more than sisters, and the bountiful number of people with whom we’ve shared so many experiences and joys.

The sentiment of one young man who expressed his feelings so aptly will remain with me always…

‘Peter didn’t fly to heaven,

Peter rode a motorcycle there.’”

My heartfelt condolences Yvonne, I've been out of the loop a long time and just heard about Peter.  I will most certainly miss bumping into Peter at motorcycle events and having a good chat...  He'll be missed.....

I don’t remember not knowing Peter.  His family  and mine were very close.  I loved him as a brother and Yvonne was so hospitable to my daughter Andrea and my nephew Graeme on their trip across Canada.  His family, Auntie Shirley, Grandma and all were our family as well.  So many memories.  So much sadness of his passing.   Sympathy to Yvonne, Brenda and all who knew and loved Peter.

A very beautiful tribute to your Peter, Yvonne. ❤ Those we love are always with us in the gifts that they shared - Peter, your laughter, warmth, wisdom, your craziness and your stories beyond. You truly lived each day to the fullest and we loved getting together with you & Y as you shared your adventures in your incredible journey. I bet you rode off listening to the song "Raise a little hell, raise a little hell" Memories are snapshots taken with the heart are never lost - they become an album of beautiful moments that live forever and in your case Peter, the laughter and your awesome craziness will keep Ron & I smiling  forever. You were absolutely one of a kind and we loved you for it. Yvonne you were an incredible, caring and loving  partner in riding Peter's journey with him and he knew that he had the best! May happy memories warm your heart and caring friends surround you with comfort. Sending huge hugs and our love to you and your mom. ❤

Sincere condolences to you Yvonne, and Helen. Brenda Frazao, who worked in our office, called me this morning to make sure I did not miss Peter’s obituary. We both agreed, it was always such a joy to see you two heading in, with those infectious smiles. Our neighbours were convinced for many years that we were caring for the Hells Angels executive branch. Thank you both for such wonderful memories. Brian Baizley & Brenda.
