BEVERLY SHAW

(née STOROZUK)

October 23, 1939 - December 17, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Beverly Shaw announces her passing on December 17, 2022.

Bev was born at St. Boniface Hospital. Her family lived in rural Manitoba until moving to Winnipeg in 1946 where she attended Holy Ghost and Holy Cross schools. After graduating she was employed at various companies including Eaton’s Catalogue Centre.

She was married in 1960. Two daughters were born, Laura and Lisa Kurytnik. In the 1970s, the family moved to Toronto (Scarborough). Bev was employed by Centennial College.

In 1982, she married Phil Shaw and moved to Philadelphia. Phil was employed by NBC as a television engineer. This resulted in his attendance at large events (including the Olympics).  They lived in Seoul (1988), Barcelona (1992), Atlanta (1996) and San Francisco.  Bev worked as a volunteer, meeting the athletes, and loved collecting souvenirs and photos. They also travelled through Europe and Asia. Upon their retirement, time was divided between Saskatchewan and Arizona. In Saskatchewan, Bev tended a large and loved garden where she grew her beloved raspberries, made jam and condiments which she sold at the “Red Barn”.

When the first snow would fly, they took off for Mesa, Arizona where she enjoyed wonderful friends, walking, volunteering and playing bocce ball. These were wonderful years for her.  Phil died in 2021 and Bev decided to come back to Winnipeg to be near family. Sadly, Bev was diagnosed with cancer. Through her treatments, she fell back on her love of reading and crosswords as part of her therapy. On December 17th, she died surrounded by family.

Bev is survived by daughters Laura (Lance), grandson, Sammy, and Lisa; sister Leona McEvoy and family Michael (Judy), Kevin (Darlene), Erin (Ted), Rosemary, Patrick (Debra); Step-children, Tim, Cindy and Jerome; great nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.

Bev enriched and filled all our lives with her presence and affection. A celebration of life with family and friends will take place in the future. We are most grateful for Riverview Palliative Care for their compassionate care. Those wanting to give to charities in Bev’s name can give to Manitoba Cancer Care, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, Salvation Army, or the Acorn Family Place.
