OWEN MICHAEL SINKINS

July 5, 2000 – April 11, 2024

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Owen Michael Sinkins on April 11, 2024 at the age of 23 years old.

Owen is survived by his parents George Sinkins (Tannis), Rosemarie Sinkins (Steve); his sister Tulin Sinkins (Dylan); his brother John Sinkins (Hannah); and his nieces, London & Lakelyn Osnoe. Owen was predeceased by grandparents, Alex & Kate Sinkins, and Roger & Joanne Deshaies.

Owen was born in Marshfield Massachusetts on July 5th, 2000. His first eleven years were spent at our family's Presidential Circle Home. This is where Owen developed his friendships with the amazing families in this neighborhood. This is also where Owen found his love of nature & science living next to a 500-acre Audubon sanctuary.

Right around his fifth grade our family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Owen quickly excelled at Highbury Elementary School, jumping a grade level in the process. His academic excellence continued through high school at Dakota Collegiate. This is where he developed key friendships with his favorite buddies. He also developed a talent for music, learning how to play four instruments.

Owen was accepted to the University of Manitoba where he majored in Chemistry. Along the way, he became prolific in reading and writing Japanese. Rugby, running track and bouldering became his go to sports.

A celebration of life for Owen was held at Humarock Beach in Marshfield, MA on Saturday April 20th, 2024. Our family is beyond blessed by the outpouring of love and support we have received. Thank you all!

Owen’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Dear Rose, George and Family,

During your time in Winnipeg you welcomed me and my family into your home. During those precious visits I had the pleasure of getting to know Owen a little bit. I'll always remember him as an intellect, a kind soul, the young man with a remarkably high tolerance for pain (I still can't believe he barely flinched at a broken collarbone playing rugby!), a beautiful, contagious smile, a globetrotter (his stories of his time in Italy have made it a travel destination on my bucket list!), a popcorn chef extraordinaire (he never shared his secret recipe and as much I was bummed, I admired him for keeping it a secret!). I remember many things about Owen, but mostly I remember the love he had for his family and friends. May all of you remember those sweet moments when you need comfort and know that Owen will never be forgotten. My family and I will continue to pray for Owen as well as all of you. God bless.

You were an awesome person back in highschool and will forever be. We only met a few times but you were a good friend! May we meet each other in the next life.

To the Sinkins family,

I was incredibly lucky to have Owen, or as we all knew him “Boston”, enter my theatre in Grade 9 and stay for his four years. He was hard working, funny, kind, bright, reliable, and just plain wonderful. My heart was shattered when I heard the news of his loss. I will carry him in my heart always. Rest in peace, Boston. You are so loved.

Owen and I met while attending highbury and he positively impacted my life from that point forward. We were very good friends. I have memories of us dancing back stage during musicals, doing track and field, watching anime, having fun at a group called nerve, and many more. I remember one time Owen threw a dart, which whizzed past my head, resulting in us cracking up on the floor. He always wanted to put a smile on people's faces. Owen is a kind and wonderful individual, who I have always continued to think about even when we drifted as friends. Thank you Owen for being in my life and I will never forget what you've done for me.

Missing you,

Allie
