ED SKINNER

April 25th, 1960 - February 19, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband and father, Ed Skinner, at the age of 62 years on February 19, 2023.

He was predeceased by his father, George Skinner, and leaves behind his mother, Marion Skinner, brothers Geordie (late wife Carol, and children Caitlin & Alex) and Harold (Ruth, and children Raymond & Grant), and sister Liz. He will be deeply missed by the love of his life, Nicki (Sedun), and sons Jordan, and Keelan (Bree, and grandchildren Remi, Radley, and Riarsyn) and Taran, as well as many close relatives on both sides of their families.

Ed was born on April 25th, 1960 in Vancouver, B.C.. As a young boy, his family lived in several Canadian cities, eventually settling in Fort Garry, Winnipeg. He attended Vincent Massey High School, and then went on to study economics at the University of Manitoba. Ed was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and it was this time in his life when he met Nicki. They married in 1986, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Ed worked in the family business right out of school, eventually leading to a long career in the building material industry. He worked in management for several reputable companies, including Hilti, Fastenal, Guardian, Epak, and his most recent employer, Red River Lumber. Ed was an incredibly loving friend and co-worker, and generous with his time and support. He always took time to listen, advise, and help out. You would be lucky to have Ed as your friend.

Ed was an amazing dad, always there for his sons, whether it be coaching their sport teams, helping them with renovations, or just giving them guidance whenever they called him which was often. He was a fantastic cook and baker, and he loved hosting family and friend get-togethers.

Ed had a passion for renovating, he loved to work on the cottage and the house. One of his favorite memories was the summer he renovated his family's cottage at Matlock with his boys

His “happy place” was spending time at the lake with Nicki, where he enjoyed working on his puzzles, reading, watching movies, and taking in the beautiful sunsets at Grand Marais.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Ed can make a donation to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation. Please note that a celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a later date.

"And then suddenly you were gone although I knew you might go someday... the only thought running through my mind was I wanted more time. It was too soon.

Condolences to the Skinner family. Eddie was one of the more amiable fellows you could hope to meet in life. He certainly added to the flavour of "H" Section, along with the Skinner seeding machine.

I spent many summers as a young boy with Eddie and the rest of the Skinners at Matlock, having cottages just down the road from each. Many happy memories of that time and then getting reacquainted at Massey. So sorry to hear of Eddie’s untimely passing and am extending the entire Thorne family’s most sincere condolences to Nikki and family and to Mrs. Skinner on the loss of one of her children.

I will remember Eddie when we were younger and he always had a smile and a beer in his hand. As we all grew older, Eddie continued to have that big smile, but this was because Nicki, his boys or the grandkids were close by and if they weren't there he would be proudly talking about them and with love. I will miss you greatly my friend. Thinking of you Nicki and all the Skinner family

Eddie was an incredible brother and my best friend from birth. He was the most welcoming, big hearted, generous,, and fun-loving bear of a guy. The world was a much better place with Eddie in it! He will by badly missed by our family and his many, many friends and coworkers. His spirit lives on in us all.

To know Ed was to love him. Family was most important to him. He has always been our guidance, our support, our fun-loving, dad, dad-in law and papa. His laid back calm demeanour made you feel comfortable and welcome, always. He loved to make us laugh and engage in conversation for hours. We are going to miss going to his house for the amazing dinners he would make. He was always much more concerned about everyone else, making sure they were ok before he was concerned about himself and I think that says a lot about his character. There are so many things Ed taught us that we hope to pass down to our children.   Our kids grew so close to their papa who they adored dearly. We are cherishing all of the memories we were so lucky we got to create with him. It hurts too much to say goodbye so we won’t - it’s an “until we meet again”  Dad/Papa we love you immensely and will miss you until the end of time.  - Keelan, Bree, Remi, Radley & Riarsyn ❤
