ROBERT LOUIS SKINNER

December 2, 1965 – November 27, 2024

Robert Louis Skinner was born in London Ontario December 2nd, 1965 to Fred and Mary Skinner and passed away peacefully in Winnipeg Manitoba on November 27th 2024 at the age of 58.

Rob leaves to mourn his children and his grandchildren, Jessica (Barry) and their children Karson, Isabelle, Skylar and Tyson; Micheal (Candace) and their boys, Abel and Colson; Taylor and her boys Rocco and Kasper.

Also leaves to mourn his two sisters, Victoria (Bob) their daughter Louise; Alexandra (Denny) and their son, Nicholas.

Rob is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mary Skinner; his nephew Billy; and his girlfriend Maxine.

Rob grew up in Ontario, he was passionate about vehicles, from building and maintaining them to driving them from a young age at the Delaware Speedway track, where a lot of the time his nephew Billy could be found with him. Dad always enjoyed a good time behind the wheel or under the hood of a vehicle. NASCAR was always a go too for dad, Earnhardt Sr and Jr were definitely favourites.

Dad spent a lot of time within his life building and racing cars, along side a very good friend Tony Bawden for many years. And of course, many memories were made with his children, racing, and working on vehicles along side him over the years.

It wasn’t dad if he didn’t have a pack of smokes in his pocket and a Tim Hortons’ double-double.

He loved his music, nothing could soothe his soul more than music could. He loved a lot of different bands, Kiss, Metallica and some Lynyrd Skynyrd of course. Recently he became interested in some local Winnipeg rap artists, which he enjoyed listening to during his last days.

He moved to Manitoba to start a new life about 14 years ago where he spent time welding, working at the HSC and working at the Winnipeg Harvest over the years. Dad spent his time volunteering for the Bear Clan Patrol as well, building connections with many who needed help, and he volunteered to help many find their way.

Unfortunately, dad himself struggled over the last few years with mental health, and addictions. But it never changed who he was and will always be remembered as. Dad’s last month was spent in the hospital with his daughter next to him, memorable visits with other loved ones, prayers with his family, and just making peace with his past. Dad will be remembered for his strength and resilience the last while.

Some last words of advice dad had given was, “Whatever you do, do it carefully.”

We will miss you dad, until we meet again.

Family would like to thank the HSC for their fast care in the ER, and in St Boniface hospital, Cardiac, EMCU and the Palliative ward for their love and care through his last days spent. Any form of donations wanting to be given can be made in remembrance of dad to the Bear Clan Patrol

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Rob’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

He was one of the gang growing up in Talbotville. A good listener and shy guy! Ernie, Ryan, Rob and I hung around the corner garage a lot. It's where his love of racing came from. My Condolences to those who loved him.

I remember Rob from high school. He was always laughing and smiling. He had something to make us all laugh no matter what. We'd be outside in the smoking area, and he'd come out and we couldn't wait to hear what antics he had to tell us about from his day so far. Was never a dull moment with Rob around that was for sure! Rest in Peace my friend. I may not have seen you since you moved away, however it doesn't mean that you're friends back here in St. Thomas, ever forgot about you. Rob Player says "Fly high my friend, you've gained your angel wings, now watch over those you loved the most". My deepest condolences to his children at this their deepest time of pain. His pain is gone and now your grieving begins.

My condolences to the entire family. I met Rob when he met Monica, as I also grew up in Shedden where they woukd spend time together. Rob was a kind man and easy going with a gentle speech. It saddens me to hear of his passing at such a young age . I hope the family may find warmth and peace when reflecting on the memories and love he brought to you all. Rest in peace Rob. Peddle to the metal.
