Leila Smadyla
LEILA MAY SMADYLA
(née KNUDSEN)
April 30, 1921 - August 23, 2018
It is with grieving hearts the family wishes to announce the passing of Leila at age 97 at Tuxedo Villa with her family by her side.
She is predeceased by her husband Alexander, her son Wayne, her parents Knud and Johanna Knudsen and all of her brothers and sisters.
Left to honor her memory is her daughter Diane, Son Michael (Irene), granddaughters Nadia (Edmond) and Tanya (David), great-grandsons Ethan and Ryder as well as many nieces and nephews.
She lived her entire life in Winnipeg. She was the thirteenth of 15 children. During her life she endured many health related issues including a brain tumour at the age of eight, and then later surviving cancer and other health concerns. She never felt sorry for herself and possessed an inner strength to conquer any and all obstacles in her path. She was grateful for all that she possessed and everything she received. She loved and lived life to the fullest.
Before Mom met Alex, She was employed by Eaton’s, first in the mail order and then as a sales clerk in the store. Mom met Alex on December 24, 1952 and they married on January 10, 1953. Then she became a homemaker. She had three children: Michael, Wayne and Diana during the time span from January 1954 to November 1956.
Mom was a gentle, kind soul. She believed in accepting people as they were and helping anyone she could. Mom always loved flowers and plants. She enjoyed music, singing, playing cards, baking, watching tv, talking to adults and children, attending concerts, travelling and participating in activities at Tuxedo Villa. Two of her favourite foods were ribs and Ice-cream. She loved all animals, but especially cats. Mom was a bingo enthusiast. She greeted everyone with a smile and sometimes a wink.
A very special and grateful thank-you to niece, Brenda Wood. Mom really enjoyed and looked forward to your visits with her at Tuxedo Villa and for the lunches at various restaurants.
