JACK SMALLWOOD

It is with heavy hearts that Jack’s family wish to share the news of his passing on May 16 at the age of 76. Jack is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ellen; son Victor (Wendy); daughter Judy; as well as grandsons; granddaughters; and lots of extended family.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Fred, Iris, Noreen, and Norma; as well as his brother Fredrick (Bill) Smallwood.

Jack was born August 13, 1945 and spent most of his life in the North End of Winnipeg. He attended Sisler High School, then started driving trucks around the Winnipeg area; working for different companies. He loved to play the accordion for family get togethers, which also led him to the band White Lightning Express, playing in numerous bars across Manitoba.

His passions beyond music were motorcycles, and watching sports (namely his Bombers and Jets), and wrestling. We would advise you to never get in the way of his wrestling – it won’t go well.

Jack lost the fight with cancer which he fought for a little over a year. At this time, we would like to thank the staff on 5B at St. Boniface Hospital, and the staff at Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home for the comfort and care he received in his final months.

In honour of Jack’s wishes, no formal service will be held; instead, please simply remember him in a prayer. He was loved by all; we miss you and we will never forget you, Jack.

One of my first recollections was Uncle Jack taking me for a motorcycle ride.  We were pulled over by the police and when the cop asked me how old I was, I replied, "I'm a six year old."  The only time I ever got caught!  Of course there are many memories sprinkled throughout the years of Uncle Jack and his accordion.  Rest easy, Uncle Jack.❤

It’s been too many years we go back.  I start to get to now Jack back in Isaac Newton School every lunch time he would pedal his back to my place and we pedal to Isaac Newton School.  When passed to high school Sisler High School we picked on Jack that is Barry Bryan and my self would get pist off with jack and put him in a locker for a period.  Another time play touch football Barry and Myself would run after Jack with the football Jack hight was 5 ft 3in Barry and myself were over 6ft tall so we chase jack this one time we were right behind him then Jack aid and zap jack was running as fast as he could and he was look back with the scared look on his face.  I never forgot that look it made Barry and myself laugh.  We never fought him.

My Uncle Jack was a musical talent, picking up songs and playing by ear.  He composed this beautiful instrumental song entitled "Seagull" which I would love to hear him play.  In the early 2000's, Uncle Jack and my dad, Abe Wall, would entertain the folks in the complex dad lived in with Uncle Jack on accordion and dad picking guitar.  Thanks Uncle Jack for lending me your antique purple and white truck when I went to Clear Lake to pick up my antique couch and chair.  I got stopped for speeding (no ticket issued)!  I laughed after because I couldn't believe that truck could do it!  RIP with your family in God's hands.
