GENE G. SMITH

After beating the odds and battling pulmonary fibrosis for 6 and a half years, Gene passed away peacefully with his loving wife Trudy by his side on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

Gene is survived by his wife Trudy (his "Sweetpea"); Kerry (Jeff), Jennifer, Stephanie, and Teresa; his sisters Frances and Sandra (Michael); along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Gene married Trudy, the love of his life, 32 years ago. How do you put 32 years of love into words? They did everything together and were inseparable. They shared a very blessed marriage, made each other laugh with a closeness that was incredibly special. Trudy thanked God every night for the gift of Gene, and she knew he felt the same way about her. Our love is...to be continued.

Trudy was so proud of Gene for the person he was. He was highly respected in the welding profession, as an amazing welder, inspector, Q.A. person, and instructor. Gene wrote numerous manuals and his knowledge for welding was far beyond exceptional. Even after Gene's health had begun to decline, he still received numerous telephone calls requesting consultations on many different projects. The industry has lost an exceptional man and she has lost an exceptional husband.

We would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital 5E for the excellent care and kindness shown not only to Gene but to Trudy as well. Another thank you to all the staff at Ethical Death Care, your compassion and assistance has been invaluable.

As per Gene's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Gene’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

He was nothing as others described. He abandoned his children, his children, Stephanie and Jennifer. Kerry is Trudy's kid not Gene's.  He had hatred for his children, hated his first wife, threw dogs into the basement after first wife died..spent 34,000 on himself as he told his daughter Stephanie to leave and never return again, ever.. then abandoned his 17 year old daughter Jennifer, she was sent to Hamilton..nobody knows the monster Gene was, your all fooled and I know he is burning in HELL because of his actions..good, he deserves that and more..

Hello Judy and Smith family.  I’m so sorry to hear about Gene Smith's passing.   He was a very good friend and buddy ( scuba buddy). We both worked for AECL in Pinawa at the time. I recalled our first scuba dive was August 10, 1987 at Sylvia Lake in the Winnipeg River system. We were looking for someone’s lost anchor, we saw lots of fish but didn’t get the anchor back, it was a good try.  I had logged 19 dives with Gene and they were always fun times especially when we were at the Dive competitions looking for items to win big prizes. My last dive with Gene was on September 5, 1993 we were diving at West Hawk Lake around what we called Peanut Island. We saw a lot of fish and Gene had found a set of trout lures. He will be sadly missed. God Bless Him! Love Mark and Dianne.❤

He was an amazing man, he will be missed terribly. Ever time I think about him one thing comes up!  He was always changing the battery on his wife clock at her work place. Those 2  where  inseparable,  great friends to my mother Marion Grieve taking her to the Keg to celebrate there anniversary.  Always kept in touch with me as well.  After my mom passed they became the closest to family to me and my son.  I will mis our phone calls Gene you always had a great sense of humour. Now you are in the arms of Jesus, don’t worry my dear friend I will check in on your wonderful wife as always.  Rest in Piece! Condolences to your family. Love Colleen and Jonah 🙏🙏
