PETER HAMILTON SMITH

August 5, 1945 - September 2, 2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Peter Hamilton Smith.

Pete grew up in and around Vancouver with his predeceased parents, Alfred and Sadie Smith. He moved to Winnipeg in the early 70’s. He worked at MacDon Industries for 27 years as a truck driver, until he retired in 2001. His love of Harley Davidson grew very strong from a young age. He loved riding. As well he cherished his time at the Wellness Institute where he met very good friends.

He leaves behind his best and cherished friend, Eileen Barker, and their fur baby Bella. He also leaves behind daughter-in-law Laura Davies; grandchildren, Brittany, Meaghan (Christian), and Troy; great grandchildren, Nico and Zaiden; previous wife and good friend, Marilyn (Danny) Alspaugh; his daughters, Pamela and Yvonne; son Rob (Johanna) Mauro, and grandchildren, Jason, Jordan, Ava, Victoria, and Katlyn in BC.

The family would like to sincerely thank 3 South at the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care over the last few months. Especially Dr. Joshua, Dr. George, and charge nurse Isabeau Llorente. Also grateful for his friends, George (Allison) Swain, Barb (Dan) Jenkins, John (Chris) Duffy, and Carl Stevens, and his amazing neighbours, Joel Sangil and Sheryle Garant, for their support and care.

Honouring Pete’s wishes, no formal service will take place. If friends so desire, a donation in Pete’s name can be made to a charity of their choice would be greatly appreciated.

He will be missed and cherished in our hearts forever.

Peter and I were friends for 44 years, having worked at the same company Macdon Industries up until his retirement. He enjoyed going out for dinners with our loved ones. Pete and I rode together, for 4 years, until his health started to fail him. He always said I was his best buddy, but really everyone he was with was his best buddy, nobody was better than the next. I miss him already, he has always kept me busy, and I was always there to lend a hand, or help him if I could. Love you brother, ride safe until we meet again.

My condolences to Eileen, Laura and all of Pete’s family and friends. Pete will always have a special place in my heart. I’ll miss his phone calls every day asking what we’re having for supper, if my husband’s going riding with him when he could. His dream was to get back on that bike one day which unfortunately never happened. I hope Pete that you’re riding the skies now in a happy place. Will never forget you.

Sincere condolences to Eileen and all of Peter’s family.  We became friends through the Wellness Institute - enjoyed the entertaining stories Pete shared and especially miss the usual Sunday “what’s for supper?” conversation starter.   You are now free to ride that Harley at any time.   Arleen & Paul

Peter and I were neighbours for over 36 years. He had the love of dogs so much that as one passed away he would always get another furry friend. I can just imagine the joy on Peters face when he was greeted at Rainbow Bridge by all his beloved dogs. I will miss seeing his face from my back door as both our back doors faced each other. We had many conversations from our back doors over the years. Rest in Peace Peter.
