WAYNE ALEXANDER SMITH

October 8, 1938 - April 4, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wayne Alexander Smith on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023 at home, in the arms of his loving wife Hazel, of 60 years.

He is predeceased by his Mother and Father, Evelyn and John Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and caring wife Hazel, his daughter Noreen (Trevor), Bonnie (Keith), Kelly (Rick) and his son Troy (Val); siblings, grand-children, great-grand-children, and extended family and friends.

Wayne was born on October 8, 1938, and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Wayne worked at Weston's Bakery for 35 years, until he retired in December 2000. Wayne enjoyed fishing, watching sports, playing cards, and taking care of all the stray animals that his children had brought home. He loved to tinker around his garage and polish his vehicle. Wayne had a good sense of humor, and loved family garage sales, St. Vital Park BBQ's, and making the biggest bon-fires, which all the grand-children loved.

Though he has left our lives, he will never be forgotten. Hazel's thoughts are "Wayne, you were more than a husband, you were my best friend. Even though you passed away, I still feel your presence, watching over me. I know that someday we shall be together again."

We all love you Wayne/Dad and miss you; more than you will ever know. To honor his wishes, a small memorial service with immediate family has already taken place.

The family would like to thank the City of Winnipeg Fire Department and Paramedics, who tried courageously to save Wayne.

Rest in peace my Husband and our Dad.

Wayne’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

RIP Grandpa. I will miss you and your sense of humour dearly. I will miss our yearly garage sales, our dinner dates at you and grandmas, playing crib, coming over to moms place for a visit and watching the Jets or the Leafs play hockey. Car rides when we were younger through St. Vital park and your love for your pet birds. I will cherish all the fond memories. Love you Always xo Vanessa, Ava and Khloe

Rest In Peace Wayne❤. Thank you for our last conversation we had a few months ago. I have fond memories of you and John joking around and laughing a lot when we used to visit. Your spirit is free now to go wherever you want, and I know you and John will continue to joke around with my mom and dad. One day we will meet again, your sister in law Janice Klos 🙏
