DENNIS GARTH SOKOLOWSKI

December 8, 1952 – July 30, 2025

Dennis was born to Audrey and John Sokolowski in Brandon, Manitoba, December 8, 1952. Dennis was one of eight children. He was predeceased by his mother and father; as well as his brother, Leonard. He is survived by his five sisters; and one brother.

Dennis schooled in Brandon and moved to Winnipeg shortly after he graduated. He started working at Motorcoach Industries as a welder and remained with the company until 2011 when he retired at an early age of 57.

Dennis married Penny (née Ziprick) in 1984 and had a very happy marriage for over 40 years. They enjoyed their time at their cottage during the summer and enjoyed their winters soaking up the sun south of the boarder.

Dennis was a hard worker and always gave fully of himself. He was always available to give a helping hand and many can attest to this. He so enjoyed fishing, bowling, curling, golfing and his guitars. In addition to the many things he loved to do in life, mostly he just loved spending time with the love of his life, Penny.

He will be sadly missed by all.

Dennis’ family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Dearest Penny

Dennis leaves us with big memories of all the times we've spent with both of you on our Winnipeg trips. He was a generous, loving, and caring guy. Especially to our Granny. She was very special to him. Here is my virtual hug to you Penny. Praying for you. May God give you Peace, Comfort, and Strength in this moment. We have the love and memories of our loved one in order to carry on.

God loves you.

He is with you always.

You are never alone.

Love and prayers from Auntie Jean.

Great guy, good friend. We bowled together for over 20 years and he even got me into curling. Well over 500 Fridays nights sitting around a table after bowling, drinking beer, playing cards and solving the world's problems. Always loved his wit and sarcastic humour. Gonna miss ya Den. Meet you again at the big Bowlerama in the sky.

We were blessed to have been next door neighbors to Dennis and Penny at the lake for the last 6 summers. He was always there to lend a hand and have a chat.

Dennis was always so patient and kind to our daughters and all the other neighborhood kids. I remember him having rock skipping contests with them, sharing his sea glass finds, and always listening to their stories patiently.

We are so saddened to hear of his passing and will miss seeing him. He was a wonderful friend and neighbour.

Dennis I didn't get to spend many hours with you but the stories I've heard over the years have been mainly about your generosity towards others. I''m sure Cousin Penny enjoyed your love of fishing & spending her time with you at the cottage.

She married a really great person & you will be missed!

Dennis will be truly missed by our condo community. Dennis was a great volunteer, serving on our maintenance, security, and social commitees. He planned and did most of the planning and fundraising for our social activities and events, took his turn checking our security equipment in the mornings for a week every five weeks throughout the year, and helped out with tasks taken on by our maintenance committee! If a job needed doing, Dennis was ready to help! He was a great member of our Tai Chi group, always ready to try to learn a new set. His positive "Can Do" attitude with be missed.
