RICHARD JAMES SONTAG

Peacefully on November 15, 2025 Richard Sontag passed away at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg at age 82.

Richard was predeceased by his loving wife Judy Sontag; parents, Rudy and Kay Sontag; and son Trevor Sontag. Remaining to cherish his memory is his son Charles (Deborah); grandson Lucas; sister Fern Kotello (Frank), brother Bob Sontag (Corinne), sister Gloria Grycki (late Gary), brother Jerry Sontag (Ellen), sister Val Werhun (Gerald), and sister Linda Ashwell (Bram); as well as an impressive number of nieces and nephews and their children. Richard also leaves behind his uncle Adam Sontag (late Martha) whom he often spoke so fondly of when recounting his early days growing up on the farm.

Richard was born June 1st,1943 as the first of seven children to Rudy and Kay Sontag of Oakbank Manitoba. He eventually met the love of his life and married Judith MacDonald on July 9th 1965, and began to raise their family in Transcona, where they would spend the rest of their lives together.

Richard enjoyed cooking different dishes and baking bread, cookies, and his famous butter tarts. He was an avid reader as he had amassed an impressive collection of books and novels. He loved fishing so much that he would go any chance he could get. Some of his greatest memories and stories he would tell were of the precious time he spent with his youngest brother Jerry in pursuit of the beloved Pickerel… (although he was quite happy to catch just about anything…)

Cremation has taken place with final resting place being Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery (West St. Paul) with a Celebration of Life to be planned for a later date.
