Guy Soulodre

GUY SOULODRE
February 20, 1938 – August 23, 2025
Peacefully after lengthy health issues, Guy passed away on Aug. 23rd. He is survived by his wife of 64 yrs. Doris; daughters, Jacqueline and Suzanne (Paul); grandchildren, Casey Braun (Nick) and Diana Braun (Jordan); and sister Jeannette in Ontario.
He was predeceased by his parents, Etienne and Marie Comte; his brother Andy; and sister Lorraine Siemens.
He will be remembered by sister-in-law Claire Soulodre; brother-in-law Ron Siemens; in-laws, Gerry & Linda Langill; nephews, Roger Soulodre, David Langill, Chris Langill; and nieces, Michelle Soulodre and Joane (Rick) Bronk. Guy is also survived by many cherished cousins and friends.
Guy worked in the natural gas industry for 42 years and while he enjoyed his job, his priority was to enjoy family, friends and as many adventures that life had to offer.
A talented musician, he spent his retirement volunteering at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Rainbow stage and performing with the group Sisters of the Holy Rock. Always very active, he enjoyed downhill skiing, curling, snowmobiling and motorcycling well into his 70s. Technology and computers were also a big part of his life. He later used much of his “tech” expertise in researching genealogy information and created mini databases to share with the younger generations.
Also in retirement, Guy was thrilled to be able to spend plenty of time with his beloved granddaughters, Casey and Diana. They brought him so much joy and he was infinitely proud of them.
In the last few years, many health challenges restricted his mobility, but he found ways to stay in touch with his nearest and dearest. The generosity of so many family and friends visiting and staying in virtual contact was very much appreciated by Guy. Please know that you all made such a difference in his quality of life.
The family would like to thank the many medical teams at Jocelyn House Hospice and Riverview Health Centre that took care of him. There are simply not enough words of appreciation available to express our gratitude for how they made Guy feel comfortable and content, and the support they provided to our family.
Guy was dearly loved and will be missed.
A private gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Jocelyn House Hospice or Cancer Care Manitoba.
Guy’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Everyone should have a friend like GUY! We first met in our walking group every week where I became a close friend with my neighbour. We could discuss anything! I soon joined the Sisters of the Holy Rock where we enjoyed performing. He was a very talented musician - Self taught!
I will miss him very much.

Guy was a special guy who loved music & laughing with friends and family. He was always very kind and supportive of me. I appreciated his friendship. While Doris is my cousin, I always thought of Guy as my cousin too. He will be missed terribly by everyone who loved him.

Guy and I are cousins but got to know each other better a few years ago when we started to communicate about our family history. Being one of the older cousins in our large family, he was a wealth of knowledge about the early history of the Soulodre family in St. Lupicin. He shared many stories and photos with me about our family in Canada as well as family in France. And we talked often by email and once by Skype. My sister, husband and I were in Winnipeg in June and we had a wonderful afternoon visiting with Guy, Doris and Suzanne. I will miss him dearly!!

what a 'Guy' for sure. (He was my mentor when I joined Sisters of the Holy Rock. He would gather the new members of the convent out at Andy's place in Paradise where we rehearsed, songs and choreo for our big audition. He was a fun, musical, caring man who strummed us through many performances. What fun we had for the next 15 years. RIP Guy and strength and support to Doris and family.

Guy will be remembered by many for his good humour, his kindness and his patience. More than once he "fixed" my banjo for me. I remember him telling me of his enjoyment of mall walking, his fun with the Sisters and his joy at working on stage at the Folk Festival. But most of all he loved his family. My sympathy in your loss.

My heart breaks for you Doris and the family. Wonderful memories. Guy was a special gift from God to lots of people..His name would come up and someone would say, "Oh do you know Guy, so do I and What a great person" God will be smiling and Guy will be playing his guitar surrounded by all the angels.. You are in my prayers and remember I still have the same phone #.

I also met Guy through Sisters of he Holy Rock. He always had his guitar or in later time his banjo over his shoulder and was walking around before performances gathering us singing some song or other with a huge smile on his face. He created great memories! To Doris, and his family and his many friends we have lost a great "Guy"! My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Guy was always sending us pictures or snippets of family history. He was so upbeat, you couldn't help but laugh with him as he was telling his stories. You will be missed my friend.

So many memories. When we moved to Windsor Park, I was devastated. Guy and Doris lived close by and they became my allies as I navigated my teenage years. Going camping, playing cards, babysitting the girls, (oops, there was that one time when a boyfriend arrived before they left), Guy cutting my hair, taking me into their car on a road trip so I didn't have to say the rosary. So many funny moments.
I love this family. My condolences to Doris, Suzanne, Jacqueline and the girls.

Guy and Doris were our neighbors on Heather Road for many years and they were always there when you needed them. Guy was a very willing helper to anyone who needed him and was there for me when I was desperately in need of help. He will be missed.

I was so fortunate to meet Guy through the Sisters of the Holy Roc. Guy became the driver for our small group of Sisters car pool. We travelled many miles and visited many towns and cities together, each one was a unique and fun experience. Many surprise lunches by the roadside at a picnic table. I was also happy to meet and have happy times with Doris: dinners, parties, and lovely get togethers for many occasions. Guy loved his motorcycle and even took us out for a motorcycle ride- my first motorcycle ride. One ride I will never forget. I cherish the times and events we shared and I was truly blessed to have known Guy. Thanks for the memories.
