LOUIS SOUSA

February 16, 1967 - December 16, 2019

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lucio Sousa. A gentle man. On Monday, December 16, 2019 after a lengthy and heroic battle with cancer, Louis, 52, is free of pain and suffering.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Shauna, mother Valdomira, brother Joao Carlos (Malgorzata), sister Dilia (Tony) as well as his niece, numerous nephews, great nieces and great nephew. As well, so many dear close friends.

He was predeceased by his father Joao Carlos Sousa Sr. and sister Juvenalia Rosa.

A special thank you to his dear niece Christina for her unbelievable love and support at all times along the way. As well, friend Kim in Toronto and dear friend Lyle and his family for their constant love and support during his battle.

Louis loved spending time with family, especially his loving mother Valdomira and his little girl Lucy that he lovingly referred to as “8 pounds of trouble”. Nothing warmed his heart more than the frequent visits from his brother Joao and sister Dilia from Calgary. The love that surrounds him has been overwhelming!

Louis worked at Manitoba Public Insurance over 30 years and formed incredible lifelong friendships. Although he enjoyed his work, he looked so forward to his early retirement at age 55 that sadly would never be celebrated.

He also enjoyed his early years with dear friend Rich and others at Laclu and again at his own cottage that he loved so much on Indian Island with wife Shauna. Many wonderful memories remain forever.

Everyone who knew Louis loved him. We are captured by his kind, thoughtful and gentle persona. We will always remember how handsome he was. Many envied his thick well-styled hair (not a strand out of place). And, as one would expect, his pride in his appearance continued throughout his battle. Undeniably, a great man has left this world and we were all lucky to have known him for a short while. We will miss you forever.

A celebration of his life, including eulogies, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church).

For those who wish to attend, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N.  with the Reverend Father Andre Lico officiating. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers are Messrs. Joao Sousa, Lyle Antoniuk, Richard Price, Karl Kennedy, John McCormack, Gary Ducharme.

Thank you to all the medical teams that assisted with his fight especially Dr. Vallerie Gordon and her assistant Larissa at CancerCare. A special thank you to Dr. Lillian Sui at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.

So He put His arms around you,
And whispered, "Come to Me."

With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.

Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,

God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

It is impossible to watch that video and not cry. What a sweet sweet man he was, truly a gentle man...and not to mention so very handsome too!! I love the main obituary picture you chose. We will always remember him this way. The love story you two shared is to be treasured and celebrated. Cutest couple award goes to...well you know!! What a blessing you both were to each other! How lucky you both were to have found each other! You shared a beautiful fun filled, adventurous and comfortable life together. It is unfair that his life was cut short. So unfair. Shauna you truly loved, honoured, respected and supported him to the end. And I know I've told you this before but you exemplified Grace under pressure. You both did everything you possibly could to stop the disease and his cancer battle efforts were nothing less than heroic. How incredibly strong he was. I feel so blessed to have know him through you. As we grieve his passing together, I will remember to focus on the gift of his beautiful life instead of the void now left by his leaving too soon. I can still hear his voice and laughter. I can still see his ready smile greeting me whenever I came over and always offering a warm welcoming hug. I extend my deepest condolences to you and to Louis's family at this heartbreaking time. May our love for & memories of Louis bring comfort and gratitude for his life.  He was a truly special man. xoxo Kim Stadfeld

Our friendship began many years ago through various connections, working @ MPI, trips to Richie's cabin, a few parties around the pool, and even a Smashing Pumpkins concert.  Over the years we lost touch but then reconnected when we moved.  Who would have thought while working in our front yard Lou & Lucy walk by!  How happy we were to see each other and caught up on what was "happening" in life and to discover we were now neighbors.  Lou, I still look for you every day.  May you rest in peace, take care my friend / neighbor.  Susan & Denis Bonan

We are old family friends from back home and knew the whole family well.  We are saddened at the news of Lucio's passing. Very tragic, he was way to young to have gone.  He was a very good guy who we remember liked to laugh and be around family and friends.  He will be missed! Our loss is heavens gain.  Our sympathies to all the family.  God Bless! XOXO ❤
