WILLIAM (BILL) SPEECHLEY
January 10, 1937 – July 20, 2025
With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of William “Bill” Speechley. He was predeceased by his wife and by his daughter, Donna. Bill was the proud father of Dean (Jodie) and Dan (Sara); grandfather to Wes, Jayda, Jack, and Ella; and great-grandfather to Carter.
Bill held many jobs but spoke most fondly of breaking horses on the family farm in Alberta as a teenager. He spent much of his working life in the bush as a driller and field foreman for mining companies. In retirement, Bill could be found at Tall Timber Lodge, where he spent summers fishing and entertaining his family. Always a storyteller, he loved sharing memories of his childhood and the remote locations across Canada where he had worked.
The family would like to thank Jackie, Dad’s primary healthcare aide, and all the caring health professionals at Riverview Palliative Care 3E.
Rest easy, Papa.
Bill’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

To really know or understand Bill you had to realize that he could carry on in a manner that you never knew if he was serious or joking around. Now If that wasn’t confusing enough, he also had a knack for using a phrase
“Jumping Jesus “
That phrase could be heard while sitting in a boat on a remote lake while he’s landing a beautiful trophy, fish.
But don’t be confused that same phrase could be heard coming from him after whacking his thumb with a hammer. I can guarantee this growing up and living with him when I was a child and teenager, Bill definitely kept me on my toes. I personally can thank him for some amazing memories. Gone but definitely will not be forgotten. RIP my friend you definitely deserve it.

I will always appreciate the time we had with Bill. He knew how to draw you in with a great story, his warm smile and sharp wit. He made life brighter with his laughter. He leaves behind a family who loved him and who he showed unconditional love for. Rest in peace Bill.

Our deepest condolences to Dan and Dean and all the families. We have never met, but around 4 years ago I made contact with Uncle Bill on many occasions and he talked of you boys (Men) with such love and admiration. My name is Donna Wiltse. Uncle Bill, was my Mother's brother. Mom's name was Shiirley. She always talked about her brothers and her sister Noreen. Over the years we heard stories of Uncle Bill (when he was young), riding horses and showing off for the girls. I had built this picture in my mind of all of them. When we moved to Edmonton, we finally got to meet Uncle Bill and he was even more handsome than I had invented in my mind. We hit it off right away, because I had a borrowed horse that wouldn't listen and he straightened that out right away. He had a beautiful smile and I thought he was about the most dapper guy I had ever seen. He was working at a diamond mine at that time, and told us stories of his work, we were in awe of that as our world was small in comparison. Since Covid myself and my 3 sisters; Juli, Evelyn, Shari and cousin Linda had plans to go see him, unfortunately the timing never worked out. The four of us and our kids were together the day before he passed, Uncle Bill was a big part of our conversation, again we we're trying to plan for a trip to Winnipeg. We hope he felt the Love, Rest in Peace Uncle Bill. ❤️

Sincere condolences to Dan and Dean and their families and to Bill's other family members - for the loss of their father, grandfather and great grandfather.
I enjoyed hearing Bill's stories of his life experiences that always included opportunities to smile or laugh out loud at his descriptions and perspectives. A rich life with a loving family.
